  1. No worries! So long as you stick to the tried and tested methods on these hallowed pages, you'll be fine. And don't ever fret about asking questions or for advice, everyone on here was a beginner at some point! I'm always asking for help on various things and people are only too quick to offer assistance. I've become addicted to this site! I'm a teacher and I have this page open on my laptop once the kids are underway with their work! Ha ha! I've even explained to some of them and they've got their parents to claim! So funny! Good luck! (Not that you'll need it, of course!)
  2. Magic!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!!!!! So pleased for you!
  3. Don't let them bully you, Lon. Remember, its YOUR money, you WILL get it back. All these little tricks aren't going to stop them having to give you a big fat wadge of cash at some point soon! I have a personal loan and a credit card with them...they'd better not try any funny business with those accounts! They can have the CC account, I don't care, but I've never, ever missed one solitary payment on the loan.
  4. Thanks, Tom. Do I have to pay another £10? Is it the same for Credit Companies as banks? If the amount owed is "in dispute", do I need to get a letter sent to them stating that fact in case Lowells try and chase me for the scandulous £223? I did pay by Direct Debit and I haven't changed banks for years, so that won't be the issue. I did miss one or two payments, but I always caught up with them. It annoys me that a simple letter would have sorted this, the woman I just spoke to told me its been outstanding since SUMMER. Why on earth have I never heard anything since then???? (So they can charge more????) Anyway, SAR it is then. Out of interest, they charged me £30 each time I missed a payment (think there were two missed = £60). Can I have that back?!
  5. Please help! I bought a laptop from dabs.com via a credit agreement with Cetelem a couple of years ago. I only had about one or two payments (of £43) left but wasn't sure when exactly it finished. I knew it was around September/October. Anyway, the money stopped coming out of my account, so I considered the matter finished. I have just got home today to find a letter from Lowells saying I owe them £223!!!!!!!!!! How the hell?????? That is about 5 months worth of my payments, so I can't fathom how on earth they have reached that figure! I am currently claiming bank charges back from Halifax and am really well read up on how to fight banks, but haven't a clue what to do here. Please can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you SO much!

  7. If they haven't offered an amount you're happy with then definitely keep pushing them! That's all that matters at the end of the day, that you are happy with the end result.
  8. It probably won't. Mine didn't. Just check as to when the cheque has been cashed. As a side note, if it doesn't show up as signed for, complain to the Royal Mail and you'll get a book of first class stamps as compo, even though it HAS been delivered! I did this and the stamps will come in handy when posting the SARs off for my other claims!
  9. That's very true. But be careful about how a judge would view it...if Halifax have offered the full amount of the original charges then they may take a dim view of anyone proceeding to court. That's not to say I'm right or from experience, just something to bear in mind. Somebody else may be along that can advise further?
  10. They're right, they DON'T pay interest...until you've filed at a court. I would take an offer near my requested amount to avoid the hassle of court. Also, a judge will be pretty quick to throw you out if he or she hears that the bank had offered you the full amount and you only refused it because you wanted the "Little Xtra".
  11. I would be tempted to take that as I'm going to bite their hand off if they offer me practically the whole of my claim. The interest I'm seeing purely as a bonus, but its your money and only you can decided what's right for you.
  12. Can I play?! Only sent off Prelim on 19th Feb!
  13. I don't think you can change it once its gone through the courts. Best to start another claim for any new charges.
  14. Hurrah!!!!!!!!! Been following this thread, so nice to see a happy ending!!!!! You did it!!!!
  15. Just stick to your timeline, Star, that's the only advice I can offer.you right now. Don't let them fob you off with this "8 weeks" nonsense!!
  16. I'm not that much further down the line than you, noclue. Prelim only went off on 19th Still, that means there's only about 10 days (or so) left until LBA time, then 14 days after that its Court Filing Time! Who knows, we may even get paid early!! I certainly hope so, I'm skint! Payday Monday, but that usually means I've got my head above water for 10 days or so before I'm sucked back under...boo hoo!
  17. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats fella!! Its so heartening to read of all these good luck stories! Chuffed for you, dude!
  18. All the best, Bluecloud (loving the "fnar fnar" reference towards the beginning of this thread when you were in, no doubt, a more jovial mood!)
  19. Yeah, that's the standard letter we all receive. Just sit back and wait and have a read of the FAQs and as many threads as possible so you're armed with all the info when they do turn up!
  20. Hey Gareth, that's a right result mate! No booing and hissing coming from this way, may even make them offer more people up front! It doesn't matter what anyone says to you, its YOUR money, YOU'RE happy with the amount so that's ALL that matters. Congrats!!!!
  21. I fully intend on going after my CC charges when I've got my current A/C ones back...I'm gonna close the CC anyway, so I won't have anything to lose. Wish I was further down the line, timewise, then I could report back to you all!
  22. Sorry liverpoolfan, not wanting to hijack your thread at all, but I've got a similar thing...my Halifax CC is £200 over its £550 limit. I've been putting off starting action against them whilst my current account is ongoing and also because its in such a bad way. I'm still paying the minimum which has kept them remarkably quiet, but as soon as I get the £3000 back from my current account, I'm paying the CC off, then going for charges refunded. Great result last night, by the way!!!!
