have ACS ever written to anyone saying their case was closed ? Or do we all just hang on and hope ?

Hang on and hope but I guess they have written to some people who they won't pursue as they won't get any money or look as if they would have to take them to court. (they can't lose a case or their [problem] is over)

Some good stuff from thje inquirer site.

It's hard to see how Andrew Crossley and his apparently sole practicioner firm will manage to weather this storm, let alone show up in court asking for more data from ISPs following all this.

In some ways the ISPs are off the hook, at least for the moment, maybe. After all Sky was just complying a legally binding court order for information, it claims.

The question is, however, if ISPs would take a more aggressive stand against handing over personal data about their subscribers without solid proof of wrongdoing in the first place, might they stand better chances to avoid becoming mired such public relations disasters?

Sky dont care about thier customers, all the are interested in pound notes! dont believe me? try speaking to their customer services Dept.

Had a conversation with a local newspaper journalist. He has the list of 'infringers' and my name is on it for his verification. (plus my address) so he knew I was genuine. His next step was to ask for info from 'Ralli solicitors' in Manchester (my suggestion as I have contacted them). Seems like even the local press are getting involved. There were quite a few locals who were on the list. From my disscusion with him on the phone he is on our side and knows of the plight we are going through. In my opinion, asc will close down shortly and all claims will cease. The SRA cannot possibly keep AC on their books without bringing themselves into dissrepute. I am also amazed that AC has not been arrested and charged with demanding money with menaces, fraud, tax evasion (his previous claims how much he has collected) harrassment and wearing an obnoctiuos tie.

In reference to BT failing to encrypt 500 files as reported on various websites and the possible outcome due to a breach of The Data Protection Act 1998 it might be helpful for visitors and members of this site to visit the official Data Protection site which will give you detailed information on your rights.

Do click on the link to the Information Commissioners Office as the information is very important.

he is not a laywer but a journalist.......I firmley believe the writing is on the wall for these 'scams'. 4th Oct (Monday) will be 'make or break' for npo's. Lets wait and see. The more widespread and 'local' the journalism becomes the more it will break into the national news. The whole country has had its victims.....but when it is your next door nieghbour or in the next street, then it will lead to people joining together to fight together. I am a small fish in a very large legal pond....but as a shoal....we can make waves. I have seen a small portion of the list and there are people living just around the corner from me........I doubt if any are guilty!!!!

My Apologies. I read it wrong,so little sleep and to much red wine.I agree with your sentimenys though. The thing I have noticed with these lists is the amount of women on them. How much strife is that going to cause.

My friend's girlfriend was one of AC's 'victims'. She was accused of downloading hard porn and could not stop crying. She had three 'threatening' letters and in the end paid to stop the harrassment. She is a junior doctor and was worried silly that the NHS would find out that she had been accused of watching such films.

Thanks :)

I'm glad I'm with Virgin Media who have stood upto these bullies (although I also believe that there is an issue with cable modem 'cloning', this I assume could lead to duplicate IP's).

I'd suggest that anyone on the 'Sky' list phone them up and tell them they are cancelling their contract and moving to Virgin for purely security reasons (I wonder whether this would be a valid reason to move even if you are mid-contract ?)

When it all comes out in the open how flawed their methods are I hope you fight for a refund. It makes me so angry to think that someone doing a valuable job is put in such an awful position. :mad2:

I was threatened by GM 10 weeks ago and though it wasn't porn I was accused of downloading the thought of a potential court case and how it might look for me as a nurse scared me to death and I went through the process of paying it to make it go away.

But this is what they are banking on, people being so scared they pay up. And if you have more to lose...

Complain to everyone you can think of. Your girlfriend is a well respected member of the community. It would carry weight.

Didn't they breach the contract by revealing your details to a 3rd/4th/5th ad infinitum party?

Indeed..in fact one of the reasons for DPA rules is that i could now phone up Sky pretending to be any one of 1000's of Sky users that I have the details for, although there should be some kind of pasword security check, a lot of places dont always bother.

Late on 24 September an archive containing thousands of emails from solicitors ACS:Law appeared on the internet. Alerted by Twitter, I watched the horrific significance of the leak become clear as an army of bloggers and forum users dissected the email archive, highlighting the sensitive data within. A handful of credit card details and passwords for some of ACS:Law's own accounts were interesting, but the shock discovery was documents containing names and addresses of ISP account holders alongside titles of pornographic films they were alleged to have downloaded.

Undeterred by the online destruction of ACS:Law, UK lawyers Gallant Macmillan will head off to the High Court on Monday to demand the identities of hundreds more people they claim have been detected sharing files online. While the ISP that holds the identities says it will resist the demand and ask for the hearing to be adjourned, the judge and jury of Operation Payback will pass down their verdict tomorrow, sentencing Gallant Macmillan to a DDoS attack.
