I only had to send one letter. Within one month they responded with letters apologising for the delay & stating that they were investigating. A letter arrived this morning giving me a full refund of all charges to my account covering the last 6 years as asked for. They have also withdrawn the default notice. Without me asking, they also added a further £100 as compensation for any inconvenience!!

A total success. Thank you !!

It was RBS, I used the template on here & tweaked it to suit my circumstances. I got the refund because they couldn't explain the service charge. As a student they shouldn't have been charging this. They admitted making a mistake.

Congratulations! :) If you don't mind me asking what did the service charge appear as on your statements? I've just received my statements going back to when I was a student and there is a mysterious £10 charge each month that I'm trying to figure out.

RBS:

Data Protection Act request sent 6/6/06

Prelim sent 23/6/06 - no response

LBA sent 10/7/06

Yes it's a £10 charge. My description was something like 'chg to 16sep'

usually notified the previous month as a service charge that's going to be applied. As a student you shouldn't be getting a service charge. I did query it when I was a student & the girl in the bank said it was because i'd gone over my limit. Obviously she was wrong.

Good luck!!
