Personally, I would claim it - it still isn't a service per se.

They would simply offer you £35 less if they didn't agree.

Yes as T4ff says reclaim it. They are just trying to mask their penalty fee with a different title.

I don't know if this will help anyone but I had a Student Royalties Account and I have been trying to work out what a charge of £10.00 which shows up sporadically on my statements was for.

I thought it was a Royalties 'fee' and wasn't going to claim it but checked on RBS website and found this:

Unarranged overdraft - maintenance charge£28 per month

(£10 per month for R21/Graduate & Student customers)

So for any students out there, RBS was ONLY charging us £10.00 for the joy of being overdrawn.

Be careful of summaries- I asked for a complete set of credit card statements of which I had lost about 40%. Firstly I received a sort of spreadsheet print out. When I compared this to the statements I had I found glaring discrepancies (in their favour of course!) I wrote them a stiff letter pointing out the discrepancies and warned them that I hoped this was not a deliberate attempt to limit the banks liabilities. They later sent a full set of statements which were copies of the originals more or less.

NOTE these people never throw anything away- they can reproduce your statements from as far back as they have digital data!!
