Didn't know where to post this - please move if there is a more appropriate section :)

I was without mains water for a couple of weeks whilst building works were taking place. For drinking water, tea, coffee etc I purchased huge amounts of Buxton Bottled water.

I would normally use a water filter for tap water because of the lime scale - but didn't for the bottled water - within a week the scale in the kettle was so thick, it took 3 sachets of descaler to remove it !

I thought bottle water was filtered in some way, is this not so ?

Is it spring water? Or mineral water?

I think spring water is basically just bottled tap water or something. I think that there is a bit of a trek about it.

As to mineral water, I think that this kind of water is pure from its source – but on the other hand it may be that it contains salts et cetera which are reckoned to be beneficial to your health – though not necessary to your kettle!.

I'm afraid I haven't got anything more intelligent to offer

I thought Buxton was spring water - so I guess if I were ever in this position again, I would still need to filter the bottled water ! What a bother lol.

Spring water will cause more scaling on a kettle as none of the minerals have been removed. We used to go to an actual spring on the Malvern Hills to collect our water as water from taps tasted foul. Kettle had to descaled regularly. Spring water always tasted much nicer.

The Tory Legacy

Record high Taxes, Immigration, Excrement in waterways, energy company/crony profits

Record low: living standards and investment

Crumbling Hospitals, Schools, council services, businesses and roads

If only the Govt had thrown a protective ring around care homes with the same gusto they do around their crooked MPs

“This is specifically not allowed. Mr. Mansour used to be a Cabinet Minister in Egypt, he has given the Tories a huge amount of money, and immediately gets a knighthood.

That seems straightforwardly corrupt.  Shouldn’t they both be in jail?”

filtering doesnt remove the dissolved salts and what minerals are left in spring or mineral water are variable according to source rock the water comes from. Buxton water has a lot of calcium, the spring water used fro making whisky is generaly slightly acidic and so not used for tap water without treatment (dissolves plumbing). Where I live it comes straight from a chalk aquifer and produces masses of limescale that is impossible to get rid of.
