Morning, sorry if this isn't in the right section, just need some advice.

I am applying for my first ever passport tomorrow as I have booked an holiday for January, 6, 2019 as I am going to send of my form tomorrow at the Post Office with check and send and my foam contains pictures for my passport and other supporting documents.

Does anyone know how long it takes?

will I get it before January?

Also, is it 100% that I will get a passport?

or could I be refused one?

as I never had a passport and I am also a British citizen as I was born in the UK.

I am just worried that I will get refused a passport, should I be worried?

as I am looking forward to going to Benidorm for 7 days in January and I am excited to be going on a plane for the first time.

Any advice would be great thank you.

This is from the Passport Office about reasons a passport can be refused or withdrawn.

https://www.gov.uk/british-passport-eligibility

As long as you don't fall under the categories they mention and have sent all the documents, I don't see why you wouldn't get a passport.

I don't know how long passports are taking at the moment, the Post Office should be able to tell you. I've used their checking service before and it works well. :)

That's great, thanks honeybee13 - I don't fall into that category which I am pleased about :)

- I have a council tax debt at the moment which I am paying £40.00 per month to Jacobs, will this stop me from getting a passport?

If its your first passport, its likely you will go and speak to a passport official, just to confirm your identity and so they can make sure you are who you say you are.

Its a pretty short interview, and they have a ton of info about you anyway from various sources.

They ask random questions based on that info and just want to see if what you say matches their info.

Once the interviews over, it takes a week or so for your passport to come.

They have the passport there and then in the interview, but they have to sign off on it and send it out.

Hi

When I applied for my first passport, I also used the check and send service at the Post Office. With this service you only pay one fee and if you have to make changes (usually photo) then you won't be charged again.

As it was my first passport, I was invited to an interview to ensure I was who I said I was.

My interviewer asked me which post office I used and its location and he asked a few personal questions that only I would know. They have a computer on the desk so I assume they have the answers already and my responses were just a confirmation and that was it. 20 minutes.

My passport was delivered the next day by secure courier.

I must add that if you have issues with the forms, the helpline is good. I had issues because my mum had died and I'm estranged from my dad and all they said was to include a short letter to explain that I had no idea if my dad had a passport and my mums had expired (obviously)

Hi Silverfox1961

- Thanks for that and sorry to hear about your mum.

Can I ask, did you have to sign for your passport when the courier arrived?

I am just worried as I am starting back in work next Wednesday and I just hope I don't have to sign for it.

I do believe I didn't as I was home when it was delivered. It's a couple of years ago and I've slept since then.

Hi, today has been a total nightmare, I done it wrong 3 times on the passport foam as post office did a check and send so I had to re do it again three times - but that's not it as 4th one is also a nightmare as I need to send my parents marriage and birth certificate with my foam but my parents have't got birth certificate, so they just ordered them on the phone, which this will delay my passport. Why do they need my parents birth certificate and marriage when I am applying for the passport? they don't make it so easy. I am so stress with this all that If this delays my holiday to Benidorm, I won't be very happy at all. I only want a passport, it's not rocket science. :(

Hi Honeybee13 - I think this does, where it states: On or after 1 January 1983 - as I was born in 1986, does that same about right when they asking for my parents birth certificate and marriage certificate as well. It could take up to 4 weeks once the birth certificate and marriage certificate arrived to my parents and then I can send my passport off, and I hope this is the end of it lol.

It's because you never had a passport before.

If your parents have passports you can send them (or just the number if I'm not mistaken), but if they don't then you need birth certificates.

This is to prevent people who enter the country illegally or overstayed their visa to register their kids as British citizens.

They've become a bit stricter in recent years.

Hi, Can I have some advice on filling in the form as I want to make sure I get it right for my passport application goes smoothly this time. I am only filling in the foam at the moment as I can't send it off just yet until my parents birth certificate and marriage certificate arrive.

It says on the form in Section 1 it says the following: If you want to pay for a 48-page passport, put a (X) in this box, what does this mean? Is this normal / standard passport? and should I put an X?

Also, in Section 5 it says this: Certificate of registration or naturalisation - Has the person named in section 2 been granted a certificate of registration or naturalisation? Cross (X) in the No or Yes box. Anyone know what this means? I am confused.

Any advice would be great, thank you.

have you been a citizen of another country and acquired UK citizenship by 'naturalisation'?
