Morning all

I have a HP 1510 Deskjet printer that has normally worked fine till today!

It is just printing blank pages, I replaced the ink not long ago so unless it has dried up in the heat I am at a loss, I have tried the usual routes, I;E Troubleshooting and it did say something about the USB cable so did what it suggested but it not even print a test paper as it comes out blank!

I was trying to locate how to see if the ink is alright but not able to find out?, the printer worked fine last time I used it

Thanks in advance for any help/info xx

Sandy

In order to decide if it is a problem with your computer or the printer, you should print out a test page directly from the printer.

There will be a way to do this but you will have to look at the manual or search online. It will be something like pressing the power switch and at the same time holding the paper feed button – something like that.

If it prints out a blank test page then you know that is the printer. If it prints out a complete test page then you notice your computer setup.

How is long since you haven't used it? If it is the printer then the most likely problem is that the ink has dried in the nozzles – if you haven't used it for some time.

Okay, that must mean that the nozzles are clogged. I expect that in this heat a month of non-use as allowed the ink in the nozzles to dry up/cake up.

You could try the techniques in these two videos and also search elsewhere for advice on how to unclog nozzles.

I think these videos suggest that you use distilled water. That's probably the best thing to do to begin with but ultimately rather than chuck the printer out you could decide to try isopropanol which you can get from Amazon very cheaply.

After you have done the rest of the cleaning bits, leaving an isopropanol soap rag under the nozzles where they pass over the printer can allow vapours to come up and to loosen the ink.

If you aren't using a printer and particularly if the weather is hot then it is generally a good idea at least to run a nozzle check once a week or so to get a bit of fresh going through.

Let us know what happens

use isopropanol is a spray bottles and spray the pads and tubes

for a 1510 to still be working today I quite a feat

we ditched all ours years ago.

take the cartridge out look on the bottom and you'll see a series of black lines in the bottom gold 'plate'

get a baby wipe and wipe across them

if you don't get ink

the cart is dry.

get a syringe with about 10-15ml of iso in it drill a tiny hole in the top green casing

insert needle to the bottom of the cart

slowly expunge the syringe as you slowly remove the needle

ie distributing the iso throughout the internet sponge.

try the baby wipe trick again.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

If the ink cartridge is clogged often the printer can't read how much ink there is in it so it will show as empty even if it isn't.

On most printers there's the ability for the printer to run its own cleaning routine to clen nozzles. Usually a basic clean and then a deep clean option if the basic doesn't work. Go to PC control panel and select the printer and look through printer properties. Usually there's a tab called 'maintenance' or similar and it's probably there.

If all else fails buy a new ink cartridge!

Marketing strategy. Sell the printer for very little and make your profit on the inks. That's why printer manufacturers try all sorts of things to prevent you using cheaper compatible cartridges instead of their own very expensive ones.

Shaving industry, razor blades, has the same strategy.
