I was stupid enough to sign up with utility warehouse who gave us low quotes for gas and leccy bills then upped them after 3 months....then when we got fed up and left sent us a final bill for £788 because we were on their bill protection scheme....no warning about this other than the small print.

i want to setup a payment plan with them but as they've already dipped into my account to take £200 out without notifying me via a card payment.

i do not want to pay via card or direct debit.

They're saying that i can only setup a payment plan if i pay via card or direct debit. I want to pay via standing order as i do not trust this company.

are they allowed to do this?

If i'm making regular payments are they allowed to used a debt collection agency?

By BACS transfer

If you'd like to pay your bill by BACS (Banking Automated Credit System), use these details:

Account Name: Utility Warehouse

Bank Account Number: 80256684

Sort Code: 20-00-00

Bank Name: Barclays Bank

https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/help/general/answer/payment-types

Dont see why you cant use the above details to create a Standing Order either

You can pay them however you want. They want card or direct debit so they can be in control of payments. As for them passing it on to a dca, they may well do so. But then pay the dca the same amount by standing order.

Set up a standing order and then let them know by email when and how much they should expect. Contact your bank asap about the £200 as it was an unauthorised transaction.

This is my plan but if they hand it to do will the debt increase as the dc add fees?

Debt collectors don't add fees. They are just collecting on behalf of the creditor. Even if they eventually bought the debt they wouldn't add fees. The only time fees get added is if they go for a ccj which is many, many months away IF you don't pay anything.

they cant and I would be paying UW directly rather than some dca who does nothing to earn their money other than charge UW 8% for their dalliance. why should they be paid twice? they ahve no rights or say in this matter so dont entertain them.

Perfect. I have the bank details so I'll just pay uw direct.

One more thing though.

I left them because they were way more expensive than they initially said they'd be. Even though they quoted based on looking at my previous years usage.

Then I find out I owe them another 780 or so because I was on their payment scheme where they average out the summer and winter payments.

So it turns out theyre even more expensive than I thought. Around 100 a month more.

Where do I stand with just not paying and taking my chances I'm court? If I can dig out their initial estimate?
