I recently moved town nearly a year ago and joined a new doctors surgery.

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease by my previous doctor.

I attended my new doctor for a problem with my skin and I told him it must be connected to my celiac problem.

He said he doesn't have that on record which was odd and he did another blood test

Assuring me I have not got celiac and can eat anything.

instead transferred me to a demonologist.

So did eat anything and my skin condition also went worse.

I was told that 100 percent I have celiac and had been to specialist in hospital and they agreed in the town I lived previously.

have gone back to gluten free diet and that’s improved my health

I’m still waiting for the skin appointment which is this year.

My point is once you have celiac you have it all your life you just goto stay gluten free.

I presume the blood test came clear because I have been on the gluten free diet over a year

I guess it’s right it wouldn’t show on new blood test

I went back to doctors and said that he just ignored me and said wait for skin appointment.

I don’t know what to do with the doctor who I believe has not done his job properly which has made my health worse.

Hi

When you say you were diagnosed with this disease by your previous doctor could you clarify the following:

Was this actually diagnosed by your GP or a Hospital Consultant you were refered to?

What were the results of the blood test taken? have you asked?

Have you asked your new GP if they have applied for your medical records from your old GP? (when you register they should apply to the NHS central register for your NHS records from old GP)

From my previous doctor who diagnosed me said I do and directed me to consultant and so did they. Just told me to stay on a gluten free diet. I had moved just 6 months after. I had moved 2 surgeries then he maybe don’t have my records from the first one.

Hi. I agree with what stu has said about your records.

I'm also allergic to gluten and think you should listen to what your body is telling you for now if you feel better without gluten, as long as you're on a balanced diet. I know from experience how eating the wrong thing can make you feel, it's not worth it.

Ghost1, I too wonder if your new practice has received your records yet. When you’re registered on their system it creates an automated message to your old practice to forward your notes to the new practice via what was a very well established process. Until the government outsourced it to Capita. Capita have been all over the news about the delays in collecting, storing and delivering records to new practices. If someone were to transfer from a practice in England to ours in Wales they can expect it to take over 12 months for a full record to reach us. We usually contact the old practice ourselves and ask for a brief summary to be faxed to us so we have something to go on but not every practice is willing/able to do that.

I can’t comment on how the blood results would have affected the GP’s decision making as I’m not clinically trained but hopefully the very real possibility that your GP was working blind in respect of your records through no fault of their own might explain their actions.

Re: “demonologist”

Sorry to appear too flippant but couldn't help but notice this and wonder ?

Best auto-correct ever?

My autocorrect comes up with “demonology” (but not “demonologist”)

I may never be able to see the word “dermatologist” again without thinking of this and chortling!

If you were following a strict gluten free diet at the time the test was taken it would give a false negative even if you are in fact coeliac. the blood test actually tests for a reaction to gluten, therefore no gluten = no reaction = negative test result. I would perhaps wait a while for your records to come over to your new gp then go back to them when they will be able to see your original results. it seems odd that they would test you again rather than simply wait for your records, its not the type of test that needs repeated
