Unsure if this is the right forum for this.

in 2014 I was convicted of drink driving and got a DR10. As a result I stopped drinking and now only occasionally have a drink or 2 every so often, I was by no means an alcoholic, just weekend fun.

The DR10 is realy affecting my policies still as I belive it has to be declared for 5 years..

Is there anything I can do at all to bring this off or down? I have seen a car I want but the DR10 is really messing things up.

Yes, the DR10 does not become 'spent' until 5 years from date of conviction so must still be disclosed to insurers until then.

There is no way of getting it 'spent' sooner and no way of getting insurers to ignore it until the 5 years is up. And as the comments on the link show many insurers (probably illegally) still penalise for motoring offences after 5 years if they manage to find out about them.

The only thing I can suggest is finding a specialist insurance broker dealing with finding motor insurance for for people with drink/drive convictions and see what they can do for you. You were asking about online comparison sites on another thread. They work well for people with "minor" convictions but aren't that good for people with drink/drug convictions. They tend to just produce 'no quotes'.

there is a box you can tick that states you havent bought the vehicle yet. As for the rest, well you need name and DOB and a load of other true information but until you click though a particuar price to get a detailed quote not much gets transferred from their database. Click through on a quote and it all goes flying off to all of the subscribers.

Another thing you will find it that quotes will change the nearer you are to the date you need the insurance and also how many ties you search for the same thing. They do this with airline tickets as well so always clear cookies to minimise your footprint
