Is there a specific reason you ask and what is it to do with?

If this to do with a Claim for either CTB or HB or both when you make a claim for these they will ask for Bank and Account details in the application as well as you having to provide proof.

I am also going to move your thread to our Local Authority area as it is better suited there for the advice you want and I will leave a short redirect.

As above, sounds like it's for Council Tax Reduction / HB purposes but can you clarify the situation ?

They could ask for bank statements to deal with a council tax issue, e.g. to prove council tax liabiity, but that information would only be under specific circumstances, would be limited in scope and would need a formal request.

They could ask for documents without a formal request for council tax purposes, there's nothing to stop them asking, but you could equally refuse in that situation.
