Is it just Yorkshire or are the security measures to prevent fraudulent use of a debit cards hopeless?

I use my debit card to make online payments all the time.

Occasionally I'm asked to validate my identity by entering my password in a pop up window

(cant remember who's technology it is Sage? WorldPay?)

I can never remember so I click forgotten password.

I'm then asked to reset my password using only the information that's on the card in my hand.

Sort code; expiry date; and security number.

As a result I can reset my password and carry on.

So too can the thief that has stolen my card and is using it to make fraudulent payment.

Is it just me?

I take it there's still a few banks using this system, I know Santander and RBS dropped it and now send you a 6 didget 'One time' pass code.

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

If in doubt, you should seek the opinion of a Qualified Professional.

If you can, please donate to this site.

Rbs use a card reader device that you put your card in,

the computer pay point tells you to put a number into the little machine with your card in it.

It then gets you to put certain digits from your date of birth.

It then comes up with a number

( derived from an algorithm only known to the bank)

you put that number into your pc and it knows your the card holder and you have your card with you.

Im sure it has many more security features that check who's who but I don't know the ins and outs
