Creditworthiness Assessment Bill [HL] 2017-19

the above bill put forward by will make it mandatory for all landlords to report their tenants rent to CRAs.

All local authorities must also report monthly council tax payments.

Landlords will have a weapon to punish tenants who don't pay on time.

Tenants will no longer be able to lawfully withhold rent when there is a genuine dispute because they will get black marks and be unable to rent anywhere else.

Renters with poor credit will be homeless.

The party line is that renters cannot get a mortgage without their rent going on their credit file.

(Don't lenders already look at bank statements and do affordability checks?)

So, they help renters by making a tenant blacklist.

There will be no hiding place for DCA victims.

Even the unbanked will be grassed to DCAs by the council tax.

Rent is not credit. Council tax is not credit. This should be stopped.

seems an odd one, a private members bill by a Lord Bird who is apparently the director of the Big Issue. if its the same Lord Bird.

maybe its an attempt to try stop banks etc freely offering mortgages to some who may be seen at risk of soon ending up evicted/homeless by not being able to afford the mortgage payments?

who knows, maybe ask Lord Bird. He's on twitter etc.

it seems the bill doesn't mention putting things on a credit file, and is for firms not landlords. but, as you say, it may end up there, or elsewhere.

as it is a private members bill, it's unlikely to get v far.
