Hi! I bought a used car last month with 3 months warranty. The other day the head gasket was blown. The dealer said it will cost £320 to sort BUT wants me to put up £100 of the cost. Any advice welcome, why am I expected to pay?

What make of car?? Some makes I wouldn't want car back after a new head gasket was fitted as this may be the start of a series of HG failures. Where is gasket blown about? and is head going to be skimmed prior to fitting new HG???

Sound advice Scania, it does help if we know what car though, age and mileage. Some heads you cannot skim now though so if has overheated to that extent one could be looking at a new engine.

They don't Scania, just plug it in to the computer and if it says head ****ed then order another one. Reality is unless you have a degree in computer gaming now you can't be called a mechanic!!

Surely, in this day & age of computers, each fault can be logged along with the cure then "Netted" so there is at least some way to gain experience for those who have not had the personal experience of a particular fault.
