ABTA statement on Hurricane Irma

We continue to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Irma, which is a powerful hurricane that has brought hazardous sea and weather conditions to parts of the Caribbean and is now progressing through the state of Florida. Irma has now passed the Leeward Islands, St. Martin, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. The authorities in these areas are assessing the damage caused. It is difficult to predict exactly where the storm will continue to impact at this stage, however, if Hurricane Irma continues on its forecast path, it will continue to move north-northwest near the north western coast of the Florida Peninsula this morning, and cross the eastern Florida Panhandle into southern Georgia this afternoon. It will then move through south western Georgia and eastern Alabama tonight and Tuesday (local time).
