Essential, but can be used against you as my daughter has found out. The somewhat unclear (due to window reflections) dashcam footage in her car shows a tractor sweeping around a bend and hitting her. As support, seperate phone pix of the road shows the amount of road he took up, leaving 9 ft unused on his n/s. Guess what? Her insurers say the ( somewhat unclear) dashcam footage shows that both my daughter and the tractor were on their own sides of the road and that he 'seemed' to stop a fraction of a second before her, so it's 50/50 and no discussion. Witnesses, passers by and all the evidence say the contrary but it means nothing because the dashcam 'seems' to show otherwise in the insurers eyes.

So, think about what the dashcam shows and only use it if it's undisputable.

Its not what the dashcam shows.... Its the idiot... I mean insurance employee's interpretation of it

Very true, however a dashcam proves of great help at junctions when both drivers claim of having passed through a green light.

Not much to interpret if the dashcam holder passed a green light and the other driver went through a red.

Plenty of footage on YouTube.

Then if you have done something wrong, don't disclose the footage or you could even get points.

  • 1 month later...

'All four police forces in Wales are to start using dashcam footage recorded by the public to investigate driving offences following a successful pilot scheme by North Wales Police. Operation Snap started last October in north Wales, encouraging drivers to upload evidence to the police website......Police forces from other parts of the UK, Australia and Hong Kong have been in touch about the scheme....'
