so the reporter used to consume a teaspoon of cooking oil a week when they were little. No mention of the mountain of lard everthing was cooked in instead. Or for those who didnt wallow in lard there was always melted butter.

Back in the Roman times when everyone had a "healthy" diet the average life expectancy was 28. Perhaps Pliny forgot to mention all those dormice were cooked in olive oil and the diet wasnt so healthy after all.

The problem is not diet but access to medicine. If everyone ate whatever they wanted but couldnt go and see a doctor it would soon sort out the properly unwell by a process called natural selection. Either that or put statins in ice cream or donuts. Bit like fluoride in water or vitamins added to bread flour.

You cant have your cake and eat it. Oh, cake has got butter in so that is alright then.
