Council tax , spoke with agent claiming I owed 156.

Asked how when I spoke with council they said I owed 179.00.

So I paid them directly.

Explained this to agent ,

he said he would enquire at office.

Heard nothing until text today

Eqiuta are Capita's goons

so they'll say anything to spoof money out of you

what letters have you had regarding this CTAX debt before?

you should have received several like notice of enforcement etc etc.

if you paid it off to the council after bailiffs were instructed you still owe their fees.

I asked he said it was for outstanding debt to the council not equitas fees.hence the reason I've not handed over anymore money, as council happy . Case closed and new ctax being paid by dd

3 times I've asked now...

what letters did you receive prior to this

the fees WILL be part of whats owed if you didn't pay before the bailiffs involvement.

Prior to this I received a generic letter stating I owed the council 156...no mention of it being for fees, also had a visit letter the original bill was 1100 I had paid said company close to 1300 and what the council received wasn't making sense ,so I spoke directly with them to clear the remainder

If you could post back with additional background information, that would greatly assist. For instance, when did you make payment?

Once a debt is allocated to a bailiff, the regulations state that the 'amount due' includes bailiff fees incurred. I am therefore confused with the comment that the 'agent' claimed that you owed £156 when the council stated that you owed slightly more.

I would suggest that you call the council to ascertain how much was owing under the Liability Order passed over to the enforcement company.

It would seem that you made a payment direct to the council. This does not remove you from the obligation to pay bailiff fees. This page (link below) should outline the procedure in more detail.

Confused by amounts also,

paid this off March last year,

had confirmation that account settled and was able to set up dd for this year's ...

.equita claim the 156 is for Southampton city council.

..hence the confusion, as they are showing a balance of zero,

15-24 home again no note saying they have visited .

Even though text claimed here by twelve so head home now

No, they have been great..equita is another story...still waiting for the visit as I was instructed by the text to leave for home now

You don't have to let them in when they call and cannot force entry unless they have a Controlled Goods order, even then can't force entry at this point if no CGA, deffo don't let them in and hide any car a few strrets away or in a locked garage.

It looks like your council might have a Capita infestation where Capita run the councils back office, and guess what? they own the bailiffs Equita.

Yup part of the plan is for Equita to scare you into letting them in when the do show to get a Controlled Goods Agreement, so that they can then come back and take what paltry goods are not exempt, goods they have no intention of actually removing as they wouldn't even pay half their fees when sold, it's more to ground the £110 Sales Fee......

  • 6 months later...

My daughter got an almost exact text. See here;

THE EQUITA REMOVAL UNIT HAS BEEN BOOKED TO REMOVE YOUR GOODS TODAY AT 1PM. STAY HOME OR TO PREVENT ACTION CALL ME ASAP. MR ****

She had to leave work too but was to afraid to go home.

(She is paying a council tax shortfall of circa £300 at £80 per month by agreement. There have been no court proceedings as they have not been necessary.

I called on her behalf and of course there was no reply and "Mr ****" message service was full. I called Equita who had been given the necessary permission to discuss matters with me and initially they refused point blank to talk to me but after two days of calling I got someone who would. This someone then refused to tell me who held any licences to operate as a debt collector nor would this person go through screen notes with me let alone post them to me in hard copy.

They are bullies, nothing more and I have advised my daughter, who has just had her work hours cut from 29 pw to just 16hrs, to notify Equita that the changes to her income mean that all she can afford now is £1 per month.
