I am having problems with Virgin Media taking an unauthorised payment from my bank and making me go overdrawn.

When I phoned Virgin Media last week, they did not inform me of an outstanding balance for £18.34.

Today, I got a letter from my bank informing me that because Virgin Media had attempted to withdraw £18.34 I would be incurring a £10 charge.

I did not authorised this payment to be made and I knew nothing about this because I received no notification from Virgin Media.

I have sent an email to Virgin's Chief Executive Tom Mockridge complaining of the matter and asking for them to reimburse me the £10 charge I am expecting from my bank.

I am on sickness benefits with limited funds.

I'm really quite angry with this from Virgin Media, I thought it was against rules to make an unauthorised direct debit transaction.

I was not sent anything in writing about the £18.34 going to be taken from my bank.

The only direct debit which they are authorised to take is the monthly payment of £54.99 and nothing else.

  • 2 months later...

I've been a long term customer of Virgin Media for many years, but I've now had enough of them.

Back in May this year, I was paying £74 a month for the Big Kahuna bundle.

I negotiated a better deal, lowered the package down and got it down to £54.99.

Its now gone up to £58 and I cannot justify paying any more.

I've also had problems with them mucking up my monthly bills, and attempting to take payments from my bank making me go overdrawn.

I want to cancel the tv side of things, but am concerned that they might try and charge me.

Any advice please would be most welcome.

When did you negotiate your lower deal?

Note what your letter says, it should read that you can cancel without penalty if you dont agree to the price increase.

I changed for a better deal back in May and wasn't told about the price increase at the time due in November.

Does the letter say you can cancel without penalty?

My better half had the same letter, she is within her contract and had the option to cancel without penalty, should be the same across the board
