Hi all,

We have someone living with us who is estranged from his parents and is 17 years old.

He was born in South Africa but his dad is a UK citizen and mum South African.

He has dual nationality and HAD a UK Child passport. He now needs to apply for an Adult passport and has no current ID.

How do we proceed from here?

The birth certificate will be in South Africa,

His parents wont speak to him although they both live here and

he can't get in his house to get his child passport

or the South African passport

This cannot be the only time that this has happened? What is the best thing to do to help him get an adult passport

thanks

How long ago did he hold the uk passport as a child?

It doesn't matter if its expired or he has lost it, if he held a uk passport he can fill in a standard passport form plus an LS001 and a new one should be issued without much issue, he will of course need the application countersigned along with new photos

Confirm what martin said: If he applies for a new passport and he had a uk passport before, it shouldn't be any trouble.

It will have to declare his old passport lost as in effect he doesn't know where it could be or if it's been disposed of.

Once you get your first uk passport you are entitled at all effects to a renewal, unless there's a court order stripping you of citizenship
