Publish the statistics showing how many people have died after their benefits were stopped

Ian Duncan Smith is attempting to block the publication of "death statistics" that will reveal how many people have died within six weeks of their benefits being stopped.

After a freedom of information request, The Information Commissioner’s Office has said that there is no reason not to publish these figures but Ian Duncan Smith's department - the Department of Work and Pensions - has launched an appeal to prevent the figures being made public.

I don't see a problem with it although there is a forum for petitions. Given the nature of it, there will probably be more response if left here.

The Consumer Action Group is a free help site.

Should you be offered help that requires payment please report it to site team.

However many deaths the figures show it will not change the sanction regime, if it does I will eat paddy ashdown.

Still well worth signing this so the 75% of the working population who support sanctions can feel pride in what they have achieved.

I am wondering if you might want to consider a different title in order to grab attention.

Thank you Citizen B, I was so shocked by what I read I didn't really think it through, I hastily posted it up with link, but wasn't to sure if it would be aloud, what would you suggest or if you can change do as you wish, if it gets this out in the open the better it will be for the campaign. Thanks Phil.

Sadly I am not sure what a petition to the Ministry of justice will do practically in this situation. They cannot be swayed by publiuc opinion and must act lawfully.

HOWEVER

That being said, I support the reasons for the petition and also and glad that this issue is getting serious medial attention, including from the Daily Mirror.

This rage needs to be more visual. (That is not an invite for violent action btw)

Personally wouldnt it be great if we had volunteers handing out small flyers outside JSA Centers highlighting that petition and also CAG as a source of information for those facing sanctions.

PLEASE HELP US TO KEEP THIS SITE RUNNING

EVERY POUND DONATED WILL HELP US TO KEEP HELPING OTHERS

That's what change.org are trying to do bring it more in to the media, by Facebook and twitter and other media sites , the CAG site is a wealth of information but sometimes some people do need more information.
