Hi,

I am a newbie on here and would like some guidance if possible.

This morning I checked my RBS current account balance to notice a charge of £25 for a court order fee.

I have absolutely no idea what this is for as I have had no mail relating to this and I am at a loss as to what it is for.

The only items I pay from this is mortgage (never missed), Vodafone (never missed) and a monthly magazine subscription (again, never missed.

I have never had a loan or any other such arrangement through this account.

I do have another bank account I will use in the meantime.

Has anyone else had experience of this ??

Any help welcome

why would RBS be charging a court fee?

have you moved in recent years?

yes they are entitled to legal fees

but only if they file a court claim!!

pers I'd be on the phone now to them

Thanks for that. No I have been with them for many years and have had same address for over 7 years. Like I said I have money going in and a couple of monthly payments coming out. It is not like I missed a direct debit and then did not pay it

I have never linked my account to something and not paid it or defaulted on it.

I'm inclined to think it is an error on their part, as I can't think of what it may relate to.

I shall go into branch and see if I can find out what it is, I just hope it is a typical "clerical error"

The only hassle I have ever had was a while back, I went in to the branch and paid cash in, this showed on my account immediately, as is normal, I then paid my mortgage and transferred cash to my wife later that day.

I then received an unauthorised overdraft notice, when I looked at account the cash I paid in had jumped from the Friday to the Monday, I wrote to them to reverse charges and no charges were ever taken, although I never received confirmation.

Surely, if they are charging a court order fee, rightly or wrongly, I should have been notified ??

correct.

unless its one of these spoof companies and their name is court order but still would not say fee by it.

Yes, do enquire at the branch - if no sense or proper explanation, you should make a formal complaint to their Head office. Unless and until they issue a claim against you, they cant charge any "court" fees and it wouldn't be applied to your account in that way .. it would have to be identified on a County Court Claim !
