We live in social housing and our next door neighbour has about six aerials in his garden for his CB hobby.

Recently we have been getting some real problems with our freeview,

can't watch any channel at all at certain times of the day,

and we have just noticed that he has put up another aerial.

The housing authority don't seem to care that his garden looks like a relay station.

Is there any way to find out if it is his equipment that is effecting our signal?

Bearing in mind that he is not very approachable.

You can contact your local council because of the interference that it's causing your signal, because of the sheer number.

Would be interested to know if he was licensed. I'm assuming be would be beyond the 12W limit.

What limit?

Have you spoken to him? I would start there - he may not know he is causing any trouble.

If you need an "authority" then Ofcom regulate all radio transmission in the UK. If he is not licensed it will be on the basis that he is not causing interference. The fact that he is (causing interference) will interest Ofcom whether he is licensed or not.

We used to have a cb radio and aerial on the chimney

and when we were transmitting the tv signal would completely disappear so we gave up the hobby.

It is very likely that your neighbour aerials have affected your tv signal too.

If he's not willing to give the cb up you will need to report it to ofcom and hopefully they will do something.

I read somewhere that filters can be installed to prevent interference, but I don't know at what cost.

RFI is taken very seriously so should be reported. Have a read - Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006

where the operators should take all reasonable steps to ensure no interference.

however, by far the best course of action is to talk to him.

he will have the equipment to check and confirm the issues if they are 'him'

ans would want to know if he is the cause

freeview , digital transmissions [rather than the old analogue days] are very robust to RFI unless totally swamped.

another point here is are you on a shared aerial system?

if so other neighbours would be getting the same issues

go check with them.
