Hello, I’m Skintnscared and err… not the sharpest tool in the box. So could someone please help? I’ve read the FAQ but I’m still not sure of exactly what I can claim and I’m worried about cocking it up.

I have my last six years statements (at the cost of £5) and have deduced that the bank are in the possession of about £3850 of my seriously hard earned cash. But I need to know whether I have calculated it correctly as I don’t thoroughly understand my statements.

Statement.jpg

I have just added everything above together, but I am sure that is not right.

I have been putting this of for some time. I can’t be having it any more. As soon as I think I’ve got myself straight, I get slapped with another charge which sends me over my overdraft, which they happily charge me for. Some times they pay my direct debits, sometimes they don’t. Either way they charge me. If I phone the bank, I just got some patronising jobs worth fobbing me off and telling me it’s my own fault. I have learnt to budget and keep my eye closely on my money of late (I now hate beans on toast, and the sight of pasta turns my stomach) I can’t continue like this just to subsidise the RBOS.

They have also been dishonest or incompetent in the recent past (It can only be one or the other) but that’s another story.

Like I have said. I have my last six years statements and I am desperate to get the first letter in the post. I just want to be sure I am putting the correct charges down. I want to nail these pilfering towrags.

Thanks in advance,

Oly.:x

Ok. first things first. Do you have a royalties account?

If so , there will be a fee you pay every month (somewhere between £5-£15 probably). This will be taken off your account on the same day every month, possibly 1 or 2 days different). These charges you CANNOT claim back.

If you have this service, RBOS are in the habit of combining this "fee" with any other bank charges.

Therefore, what you need to do is identify how much you pay for Royalties and deduct this from each month. From there, you will have a good idea what your "penalty" charges are. Then copy the info into Vampiress' spreadsheet and that is your starting point.

Dont worry, it can be a little confusing at this stage, but that soon clears up.

If you have any other questions just post them or PM me, and I will try to point you in the right direction.

And for what its worth, about 3 months ago I was in exactly the same position as you and I would recommend that you read lots of the other RBoS threads (especially the longer ones). This will give you a great idea of how they play the game and what to expect. And Finally......dont forget....they have YOUR money and the law says you should get it back. End of.

Hope this helps.

On the statement you have listed above it shows you are a royalties gold customer. Royalties Gold is currently charged at £12 a month. That would be the "PLUS A FEE OF" bit underneath. Therefore, from that sheet you have attached, you can claim £28 out of the £40. This is an arrangement fee which has probably been charged to your for being overdrawn.

Funnily enough, I've just put up a thread on this here. That should help...

Good luck!

And if you are skint, then start by getting rid of the royalties! If like me, you think its handy but end up not using it one bit, what is the point of having it? I had it for 6 years and I honestly can't think of what benefit I got from it. And it cost me £144 a year!

HI

I have just sent off my letter with charges. I noticed only now that a spread sheet is used. I have sent a copy of my statements highlighting the charges along with the letter giving them 14 days to act. Will that be okay. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if anyone can advise. Thanks
