Hi there,

Been recommended here by a friend who successfully claimed back charges against his account. I have read through all the FAQ's about the processes and where i stand should things get hairy.

I'm hoping to send my SAR tomorrow, but two questions i would like to ask RBS account holders is who do you make the £10 cheque payable to? And secondly, does it make any difference sending my letter and funds to my branch or the address in Edinburgh?

In the meantime i will continue to work my way through the various threads within this section.

Many thanks,

John

Thanks for the swift reply. As eager as i am to claim back charges brought against me, i will still trawl through the threads here and try to gain a better understanding of what is going on as to be honest i've not overly confident at the moment.

Ok i submitted my SAR on the 23rd October to my branch of RBS, its been over a week now and i have still not received acknowledgement that they have it.

Should i receive a courtesy letter to say that they are processing my request or does RBS not do this?

In my experience they do not do this, and they don't include a compliments slip or note when they send the statements either! Is frustrating isn't it because you worry if the request has gone to the right person.

You will have seen from other threads that RBS don't always comply with the 40 day deadline, so be prepared to hassle them. But your staements will come.

Well my mind was thinking if they would be doing anything but from what you've told me i'm going to have to give them some work to do anyway :D

Well i got my statements through this morning, and after having a brief look throuigh over my breakfast there are a few things i have questions on.

I take it on my statements where is says CHG against my account, is basically what i can claim back?

One thing i would like to query though, on my statements it says the following thing, for example.

INT TO 29DEC A/C ******** £7.19 withdrawn

CHG TO 27DEC A/C ******** £32.50 withdrawn

How much of this interest can i claim back? this is not the only time its appeared on my statements. and it amounts to quite a bit.

Thanks in advance

John

if you go to vampiress chamber and look at the spreadsheet there you enter the balance on the account at the time and that calculates how much of the interest is allowable. take your time and post back if you have any problems.

Stacey thanks for the reply.

I'll take a look at the spreadsheet, but one thing i need to clear up is, that particular charge. On some of my statements it is about £5 in one particular month and £34 for the next.

Is this CHG to do with the agreed overdraft i have on my account? If so i could understand paying £5, but why does it fluctuate so much, is it because on particular months where it rises to £34 i have gone over my overdraft?

thanks

John

if on a normal month its £5, anything above that will be a penalty charge. So claim for any anything above the standard charge i'e £29.

Double check what the standard charge is, it varies on different types of accounts!

Ok, finally i've worked my way through my statements and prepared a spreadsheet, i'm going to transfer it across to one of the recommended spreadsheets on here.

One thing i've become worried about over the last couple of days is the possibility of my account being closed. Have RBS been known to do this?

I think they only tend to close accounts if you claim against them more than once, but as me says best to be prepared!

Thought i'd dig this thread up again, i've been a bit slack over the last couple of weeks.

I'm now at a stage to send my prelim letter, but there are so many addresses to send it to, who is best. I'd rather not give it to my branch if possible

Hi big lad

Seems like you and I are at the same stage of claiming against rbos.

as ive just sent my prelim letter about four days ago.

I dont think it matters where you send your prelim letter as it always gets to the right dept eventually. I sent mine to customer relations.

Did you send it registered mail? you can then follow the progress of it.

Good luck with your claim (not that you will need luck!)

Ok i've updated my spreadsheet ready to send to RBS, but would anyone be able to take 10 minutes or so to kindly check mine over and make sure i've got everything down and make sure i'm not claiming for stuff that i shouldn't.

Still a bit unsure you see as to what i can claim for and what i can't and want to make sure its right

Any help is appreciated

Many thanks

John
