Hi All,

In April 2008 we purchased a Hotpoint Washing machine from Comet.

We also purchased a 5 year warranty at the same time,

so earlier this year when the bearings in the drum and the main pcb went,

we called warranty group who sent an engineer out with in a couple of days who replaced the whole drum assembly, the main pcb, door seal and heater element.

The engineer told us that the inside of the machine was new so should go on again for another 5 years.

The repair was done on the 05/02/2013 with the 5 year warranty expiring on 03/04/2013

Now just three months after the repair was completed, the machine is doing exactly as it was before, (bearings in the drum failing)

I contacted warranty group who kindly told me that the warranty had now expired so they would do nothing,

I explained to them that the machine has just been repaired by their engineers and they said "the repair only carries a 28 day guarantee"

this has left me totally shocked, how can a repair with brand new parts only be guaranteed for 28 days?

when I challenged this, saying that the repair had clearly not been done correctly

they responded by telling me that, had this been the case the fault would have shown itself within the 28 days...then put the phone down on me.

In my opinion either the machine was either not repaired correctly or the parts fitted were faulty, surely the new parts should carry a guarantee?

Also, the warranty we purchased was if the machine could not be repaired it would be replaced,

I honestly believe the company have done a fix to last just slightly longer than was left on the warranty so making sure they didn't have to replace it.

Is there anything that I can do about this?

Should the new parts be guaranteed and should a machine that has been repaired rather than replaced fail within such a short space of time?

Many thanks for any assistance with this as really could do without the expense of a new washing machine now!

sadly so many people get spoofed into paying for an extra warranty

for XX yrs at £XX for NOTHING

SOGA covers the machine for free

as it does replacement parts

so go get 'em!!
