Hi people,

please could you advise me what the procedure/ time limits are when making a complaint to chambers about a particular barrister.

a) I have already made a formal complaint and received a response from the chambers (I am not happy with their reponse and intend to follow up with another letter- however their response was nearly six months ago: I feel i still have time to squeeze another in)

b) I have yet to make a formal complaint to the BSB.

I really appreciate the help, I called the Bar standards board whom put me through to voicemail so they were pretty useless.

Many thanks

And kind regards

BB

Complaints about a barrister acting for you are normally dealt with by the Legal Ombudsman. You generally have six months so are just within time. I doubt there is much point playing letter tennis with chambers if they have already provided a full response to your complaint.

Hi SP,

yes you are correct, I have just been in contact with the Legal Ombudsman and they will be invetsigating and progressing my complaint.

Have you any idea how good they are and what the turn around for resolution of diusputes is? The phone handler advised that they aim to resolve all cases within 3 months. Which sounds good.

You are right about the letter tennis playing, I have already written enough letters to last a lifetime and a half

Best regards

Hi BB,

I've heard mixed things about the LO. Some people say they are very good, others say they are rubbish. I guess it depends on the attitude of the particular person dealing with your case. Hopefully you get someone sensible.
