My department was told in April last year that we were to be outsourced to IBM. After the contract was signed we were then told as our roles were being outsourced to New Delhi and it was not suitable for tube and we would be made redundant. We now know that we will be made redundant in June this year.

We now have IBM staff on site and we have been told we have to show these people our roles through a keystroke programme, where they capture what we do, (we are accountants). Why, if we are being made redundant should we show these people our roles? And if we are being made redundant then surely our jobs should be redundant but all our jobs will still have to be completed on a monthly basis.

As you can imagine given the time scales involved and nature of the tips/redundancy and no help at all from our employer morale is very low and stress levels extremely high.

Are we being dismissed unfairly?

What are the roles of the IBM staff on site? Are they in accounting too?

If they are doing the same role, it can't be a redundancy situation. If your role is redundant from June due to outsourcing (perfectly legal as long as they consult with you) but they are bringing in staff doing substantially different roles, that's probably lawful too.

Just bear in mind that refusing to train people could amount to insubordination (failing to follow a reasonable management request) which could be a disciplinary offence.
