Hi,

Have you tried talking to the manufacturer, they will have at least a years warranty and they should stand behind their product.

Or, the adminstrators take the place of Comets owners and they are responsible for goods sold during their "ownership" of the business.

The manufacture will repair it at £99 call out fee plus parts by what i told them the part is £165

i expect there will be VAT on top of that!!

comet apparently have /have not brought the warranty so either pay for fix or take it up with comet

there is signs in store stating they do not accept returns and to take it up with manufacture

Going to get box out of shed pack it up and head down to comet now as if there reputation is not bad enough now!!!!!!!!

I was told this a couple of years ago by a Comet repair man that they buy some items from the manufacturer without a warrantee so they can get them a little bit cheaper. Comet then handles all the repairs and costs. Not good if you buy something from a retailer that then goes bust. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be stung by this.

Paid by debit card

spoke to comet they said the administrators are setting something up to deal with faulty products and to phone back Wednesday

failing that i will have to take it up with the administrators not that i will get far

It says something if UMC cant stand by there products 7 days old

may get umc to come out and repair it they can send the bill into comet!!

Yes john exactly how it is and will be for many looking to grab a bargain which will not turn out as such .

COMET bought many products from manufacturers at a cheaper price as a "sold as seen deal" they then had to carry out any repairs ect at their own expense .

That is why these Manufacturers will now say tough luck not our problem when these products break down .

Well surely trading standards should be involved as Comet are selling new stock and deliberately miss-leading customers by claiming goods are covered by a 12 month manufacturer guarantee when this is obviously not the case.

Well that would appear to be the case regarding this faulty 7 day old UMC television :mad2:

Surely this instance breaks every consumer law ever written never mind SOGA

I also had a similar issue with comet, i cant beleive that its possible i can go to a shop buy something and then return it after 2 days and not get your money back. Please be aware, if you return a TV or anything, you will be a creditor...

"Your rights. Buy faulty goods, and by law, your rights are with the shop you bought them from, not the manufacturer. It's the retailer which should provide the 'remedy', whether that be a refund, repair or replacement.

However, accountancy firm KPMG says that while a firm is in administration, if the item you purchased is faulty, your claim for a refund would just be another claim as a creditor to the store – you'd be one of a long list of people owed cash by the company"

What I did and my Advice, call the credit card company as they sorted it out for me. I'm now a happy chappy.

Hi air ,

Yes that is how it should be , that said COMET are selling goods advertised with a 1 year Manufacturers Warranty .

This is laid out in their Terms and Conditions since Adminstration

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?371488-COMET-QUESTIONS-and-ANSWERS-4-11-2012-(By-COMET-!)-****-BEWARE****

All products will be sold with a manufacturer's warranty. This warranty should be registered once the item is purchased. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase in case the manufacturer needs to inspect it.

Unless it is a UMC Tv to name one Product it would seem .

Hi Gorgie, i Understand you completely.

But in an earlier post ...

"Re: comet UMC TV dead after a week manufacturer wont fix

How do we know this is not the case with all the products they have purchased... As they need to buy cheep 30%-50% off (Without warranty from the manufacturer for example) and sell cheep 30%-50% off (to bring in trade) making them the same profits. food for thought. :)

Its a sinking ship and want nothing to do with them, to be honest and i am sure that most people feel the same way. if you are nieve enough to by something from an Ebay store based in China for example, cos its cheep. When you get it and doesnt work you say "oh well its a risk I took." Its the same thing with comet. they tell you buy a product from them, if it goes wrong its someone elses problem, with my many years of having grey top, this always means the problem is yours!

If your lucky to purchase a product thats 30-50%% off, because the shop is closing down and you have it for 10 years then you got a good deal. If another guy buys the same product and it goes wrong they took the risk but this time it didnt pay off.

SO ACCEPT IT or Get a refund on the credit card. If something goes wrong at least youre able to get on with your life :-D i hope you agree!

Bit difficult when used a debit card!!!

it is not a case of accepting it the goods were brought with the promise of FULL MANUFACTURER WARRANTEE which is not the case

Hardly DeLonghi's fault is it as you bought from the store and your contract is with the store? Although unfortunate for you, they are correct.

May not be DeLonghi's fault but not the best customer service, They could have sent out replacements at their cost to keep the customer happy.

George

Not sure why they should be involved and give away goods for free?

Its hardly giving stuff away free, There product and missing a few items in box and company who sold it has now gone bust.

Obviously they can say no like they have but I would have thought for a few £s on a missing part/s they would have liked to keep

the customer who has just purchased the product happy.

A happy customer has got to be worth more through word of mouth of them helping him out after Comet fail than the customer telling family and friends not to buy anything DeLonghi's.

It certainly put me off buying from them, not helpful in any way were they.

Just rang bank to complain about this charge back taking so long

They credited the money back yesterday so i had nothing to complain about

Now what to do with my new broken TV i expect it will end up down the tip but cost me nothing!

Good result! Take it to an independent and see if they can fix it and then sell it. The other alternative is to send it back to the factory for a quote to repair. If quote reasonable get it fixed and sell. If not, walk away. :-)
