The expected sale of Milk Link to Arla Amba, which has over 8,000 farmer suppliers across Europe, would be the sale of the last part of the Milk Marketing Board, which was started to be dismantled in 1994 under Thatcherite market ideaology.

Sad, very sad.

My family were brought up with the MMB as well as the EMB. We could see what was happening way back in 1989. The way things were changing with only one outcome.

We decided to sell up, a farm that had been in our family since the early 1800's. That was a really sad day to see everything laid out in the fields with people bidding on our family history.

All of my family bar one have now died off.

I look back now and realise that yes my early years were hard, but it was a time of family unity. Not much of that around either anymore!

Thats sad to hear Amianne, there are less and less family run farms.

And more and more large 'corporate' run opperations. We will end up like Germany, working our little bit of land at the weekend and going to BMW or the like because we can't make farming pay.
