you would get the same amount either way

 

for example if income support (+ carers premium) = 98

and tariff income was £20, overpayment was £5, and carers allowance was £53

 

if you were not receiving carers allowance but had underlying entitlement to it, you would get income support of 98 - 5- 20 = £73

if you were receiving carers allowance, you would get income support of 98 - 5 - 20 - 53 = £20 plus you would be getting £53 carers allowance

 

either way, you receive £73 in benefits
