Hi there, I'm about to approach my mortgage company - Preferred Mortgages. I have all the statements so dont need to send the DPA letter. I have calculated up all the unpaid DD fees. My question refers to the other charges they have attached to my account ie. arrears fee (£45), telemessage fee (£25) and debt counsellor charge (£65). Should I claim for these as well?? I cant see how an automated message would cost £25 nor how being in arrears costs £45 a month. What should I do???

I am in the process of challenging mortgage charges, and I wish you every success with your claim.

As far as these charges are concerned I would agree with your comments. The arrears charge and the telemessage charge should certainly be included. The Debt Counselling charge may be more problematic as £65 would seem to be a reasonable figure for that sort of service.

It is great to be able to feel that you are in control of the situation for once. We have been through some serious stress over the past few years, as a direct result of our mortgage company's actions. It is now time to turn the tables and see them under some pressure.

Well, after unsatisfactory contact with Preferred I am now issuing a claim against them in small claims court. Anyone with any similar experiences with Preferred?
