Hi,

We have had work done in our home via our building insurance. The first contractor walked on the job; stripping most wallpaper and filling a few cracks on the ceiling. The second contractor completed the rest of the job.

Trying to calculate how much to offer the first contractor. Did your insurance assist with it or did you negotiate it yourself?

Thanks.

Hi,

Not sure what you mean, did you not get estimates for the work to be carried out by both contractors ?

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

If in doubt, you should seek the opinion of a Qualified Professional.

Hi,

Quote was given and accepted by insurance. Contractor was chosen; walked out on job, which was not completed. Second contractor matched the quote given by the first and completed job. Will have to give first contractor some money out of the quote accepted. Wasn't sure of procedure of calculating his work, if indeed there is one. Or who to turn to for advice about it.

Thanks.

Sorry I'm not sure whats the best way to handle this without trying to get both contractors together and working something out.

Well the first thing I would do is contra charge the first builder for your time and delays in getting the job done.

Your insurance co will only pay you once for the job and that will be the second quote.

so if you pay the first builder anything it will reduce the amount you pay the second one; is he happy with that?

I expect he quoted for the job he has to do from the state it was left in and made no allowance for you having to pay the first builder!
