My friend has two payday loans one with Cash Genie and one with Wonga. She has never defaulted until last month with Wonga. One is for £100 and one is for £150. Yesterday. She is paying Cash Genie off with her new bank account (I know told her not to give them her card details but everything seems to be going ok). Yesterday there is a withdrawal of £275 relating to Wonga from her new bank account. She says she has never given Wonga her details and wonders if Cash Genie has given Wonga her card details.

Are these two companies connected does anyone know.

The payday companies have their own 'database' of who applies to whom, I think it is part of the BCCA scheme but I am not 100% certain, it is becoming more obvious now people are learning their rights against these loan companies that they are employing 'back door' methods of acquiring people's bank details. This is why when you get new bank details you should NEVER give them to the PDL company. Just getting a new card is not sufficient either.

You also should write to the bank and state that any continuous authority given to anybody on your old card is recinded due to security issues.

Email [email protected] and tell him what has happened, Wonga are in the wrong here and you can state in the email that you are copying in the OFT and Trading Standards.

Your friend now needs to get a brand new account number from the bank, and ask for it to be unlinked from the previous one.

She should have paid from the OLD account rather than the new one. The point of setting up a new account is that the account is NOT given to any PDL company whatsoever.

Thanks Sillygirl. She has spoken to the bank who are investigating but seen as this card is only a few weeks old I was really surprised when she told me that Wonga had taken her money and thought there must been some connection with Cash Genie.

I don't think they are connected.Wonga did take money from a new bank account from me. it was 6 months after i even had the loan and paid them.i contacted them but they were very unhelpful. I am currently sorting out the details so i can report it to the police.
