    • I can only speak from personal experience. But a similar thing happened to me. Seriously dented door.  I made the other insurance pay. They regarded it as a write off. Took the money, replaced the door. Never heard anything more about it.    Except clearly someone sold my details to claims company, because I got loads of calls in bad English for a few month's
    • The incident was 03rd March 2024 - and that was the only letter that I have received from MET 15th April 2024 The charge I paid was at the Stansted Airport exit gate (No real relevance now - I thought this charge was for that!!).   Here is the content of email to them (Yes I know I said I was the driver !!!!) as said above -  I thought this charge was for that!! "Stansted Airport" Dear “To whom it may concern” My name is ??  PCN:  ?? Veh Reg: Date of Incident: 03rd March 2024 I have just received a parking charge final reminder letter, dated 10th April 2024 - for an overstay.  This is the first to my knowledge of any overstay. I am aware that I am out of the 28 days, I don’t mean to be rude, this feels like it is a scam My movements on this day in question are, I pulled into what looked like a service station on my way to pick my daughter and family up from Stansted airport. The reason for me pulling into this area was to use a toilet, so I found Starbucks, and when into there, after the above, I then purchased a coffee. After which I then continued with my journey to pick my daughter up. (however after I sent this email I remember that Starbucks was closed so I then I walked over to Macdonalds) There was no signs about parking or any tickets machines to explains about the parking rules. Once at Stansted, I entered and then paid on exit.  So Im not show where I overstayed my welcome.. With gratitude
    • Just to enlarge on Dave's great rundown of your case under Penalty. In the oft quoted case often seen on PCNs,  viz PE v Beavis while to Judges said there was a case for claiming that £100 was a penalty, this was overruled in this case because PE had a legitimate interest in keeping the car park free for other motorists which outweighed the penalty. Here there is no legitimate interest since the premises were closed. Therefore the charge is a penalty and the case should be thrown out for that reason alone.   The Appeals dept need informing about what and what isn't a valid PCN. Dummies. You should also mention that you were unable to pay by Iphone as there was no internet connection and there was a long  queue to pay on a very busy day . There was no facility for us to pay from the time of our arrival only the time from when we paid at the machine so we felt that was a bit of a scam since we were not parked until we paid. On top of that we had two children to load and unload in the car which should be taken into account since Consideration periods and Grace periods are minimum time. If you weren't the driver and PoFA isn't compliant you are off scot free since only the driver is liable and they are saying it was you.

    • Hello,

On 15/1/24 booked appointment with Big Motoring World (BMW) to view a mini on 17/1/24 at 8pm at their Enfield dealership.

Car was dirty and test drive was two circuits of roundabout on entry to the showroom.  Was p/x my car and rushed by sales exec and a manager into buying the mini and a 3yr warranty that night, sale all wrapped up by 10pm.  They strongly advised me taking warranty out on car that age (2017) and confirmed it was honoured at over 500 UK registered garages.

The next day, 18/1/24 noticed amber engine warning light on dashboard , immediately phoned BMW aftercare team to ask for it to be investigated asap at nearest garage to me. After 15 mins on hold was told only their 5 service centres across the UK can deal with car issues with earliest date for inspection in March ! Said I’m not happy with that given what sales team advised or driving car. Told an amber warning light only advisory so to drive with caution and call back when light goes red.

I’m not happy to do this, drive the car or with the after care experience (a sign of further stresses to come) so want a refund and to return the car asap.

Please can you advise what I need to do today to get this done.

      Many thanks

    • We have finally managed to obtain the transcript of this case.

The judge's reasoning is very useful and will certainly be helpful in any other cases relating to third-party rights where the customer has contracted with the courier company by using a broker.
This is generally speaking the problem with using PackLink who are domiciled in Spain and very conveniently out of reach of the British justice system.

Frankly I don't think that is any accident.

One of the points that the judge made was that the customers contract with the broker specifically refers to the courier – and it is clear that the courier knows that they are acting for a third party. There is no need to name the third party. They just have to be recognisably part of a class of person – such as a sender or a recipient of the parcel.

Please note that a recent case against UPS failed on exactly the same issue with the judge held that the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 did not apply.

We will be getting that transcript very soon. We will look at it and we will understand how the judge made such catastrophic mistakes. It was a very poor judgement.
We will be recommending that people do include this adverse judgement in their bundle so that when they go to county court the judge will see both sides and see the arguments against this adverse judgement.
Also, we will be to demonstrate to the judge that we are fair-minded and that we don't mind bringing everything to the attention of the judge even if it is against our own interests.
      This is good ethical practice.

It would be very nice if the parcel delivery companies – including EVRi – practised this kind of thing as well.

Don't fall for this one. its utter rubbush. £20 pm annual service, boiler and central heating and emergency cover. Note the word EMERGENCY!!!

Read their website very carefully:

only 4 breakdowns allowed.

If the engr cant make permenant repair in intial visit and has to come back ( cos he dont have the parts ) you have to pay full costs for 2 nd visit.

People ring you home insurance, they offer the same thing other than the annual service for about £80.

Hi,

I totally agree. I took on the AA Home Emergency Response policy in November after Directline hoiked their prices up.

I might as well ripped up the cash and poured it down the drain.

We have had a leaking WC in our house for 5 days now, and inspite of "friendly" phone calls from the AA advising me that the response team were dealing with my claim, so far, nobody has repaired the toilet and I haven't got a definate date when they are going to do that.

What a laugh, if my heating had failed or my drains had been blocked with raw sewerage then this would be a major issue.

The AA seem incapable of administering this scheme on behalf of another insurance company.

I suppose you get what you pay for, which at the moment is nothing!! I have sent Watchdog a quick email.

So much for EMERGENCY response, I don't think so!

the AA home emergency service is worthless, had a small leak in my bathroom last week, got my regular plummer to attend and replace

the leaking stopcock, a couple of days later started leaking, noticed this on saturday, my plummber was not available, by sunday leak was much

worse and coming through ceiling in kitchen and through the light fittings, called the AA who immediately said NOT COVERED, why? because

you had you own plubber out last week, asked to speak to supervisor, said of course , put me through to a number that has no one to speak to other than normal office hours, may as well be flushing the premiums down the drain. will never trust the AA again.

Ok ring them back.....

Advise them your previous fault was a small drip...... and under their t&c's that wouldnt have been covered as it wasnt an emergency.

Hi,

I have not had a problem with Home Emergency Response as the offer is just 5.99 per month covering you from your roofing for floods, your drainage for collapse, your pipes for bursts, your electrics for full failure, pest control (wasps), being locked out, central heating pipes to and main water to stopcock and windows against security. They will even reimburse hotel costs if your home is unhabitable due to an emergency. To be honest I think its better than relying on dad as he is getting older now and wants to enjoy his retirement for just around 1.80 per week I am happy to pay someone if anything went round around my home and put a fix in place.

If you use a regular plumber then it could affect your home emergency response as that plumber might not be approved to certain standards. I think the AA are trustworthy and being one of the oldest companies in the UK going since 1900's you would expect that, where other companies and brand names have fallen.

With regards to toilets if you have another WC in your home then its not an emergency. Note the word RESPONSE, the aim is to get people safe secure and habitable and like their car breakdown that they are successful with they are going to priorise a major crash on the motorway to someone running out of fuel on their driveway. You would be glad of them if there were floods in the region, your roof was leaking or you had small children and your electrics went off and your trip switch wasn't working and your home was not safe or secure for yourself or your family, wouldn't you rather be in a cushy hotel should that happen than being stuck in a flooded home or having to sleep on the local chuch floor? Even though your insurance premiums would cover for natural disasters Home Emergency Response may help you loads by giving you that much needed overnight accommodation at just 5.99 a month while they fix the problem to get you back in your home.

If heating failed on a bank holiday or drains had collapsed then that would be a maor issue and thats what the RESPONSE service is for whereby you don't have to pay a massive call out fee.

Like all new services The AA I think have learnt by last years mistakes and I have learnt that they are under ACROMAS now that owns the AA, so I say give them a chance. There were not many cars on the road at the time The AA first came out and there might have been a lack of understanding about that service either, maybe people at that time did not think they needed road breakdown recovery, but AA men go out and risk their lives on the motorway each day and its the same with Home Emergency Response as there are more people buying their homes now. Its the same as the internet I can develop websites but back in the early 1990's people thought the web would not take off but communication is vital now, definately look at the word RESPONSE and think does this emergency need to be responded to quickly or do you think the AA are taking care of more vital things like flood damage or electrical failures in a home with children?

The philosophy is to make your home safe secure and habitable the same way as making the road safe and secure for road users. I think its a worthwhile service and I have totally got my head around it.

i think you need to read page 17 of the t&c's

so if you have a broken window they aim to make a permanent repair, however only if at a similar cost and at 1st visit. howver they may use boarding or similar material to resolve the emergency..... o tell me.... will they ever replace the window... nope

alo for electric it has to be complete failure, not partial

I have just signed up for it and understand nothing of the terms and conditions, however just had someone from AA ring trying to add on boiler insurance for additional £7.99 or something.

Thats how I got to this page on the reviews seem quite negative.

I guess they don't cover home emergencies as well as they do breakdown cover?

All the best

I have an opposing view to most people on this thread. I was unlucky enough to have a blocked soil pipe this week that prevented the toilet from flushing. I reported the problem to the AA on Tuesday evening and the drainage specialists turned up on Wednesday afternoon as arranged. They diagnosed the fault quickly and cut through concrete to expose the underground pipes. They removed a section, cleared the blockage and fitted a new section. The guys were quick, courteous and efficient. I cannot fault the service and I would recommend the AA Emergency Home cover to anyone.

Joke (NOT) of the day = The AA Home Emergency Response.

If they come out and bugger up a fitting at night, then state will have to come back in morning/afternoon, then, when they fail to turn up you ring to be told did the leak get stopped last night, then we have responded to the emergency and made safe = The Cost of repair/fitting is £89.00.

Local plumber included new radiator which the AA CHAP (In AA uniform) buggered up = the threads), cost me £50.00 including fittings and radiator incl Labour.

Buyer Beware = The AA other than Breakdown Service is to be Avoided.

Buyer beware of Swinton Emergency so call Emergency cover. It does not come with a Chrystal Ball, which you would need to predict when an Emergency will take place as they consider sending a person anytime within 24 hours to be an Emergency response time.

AA home emergency is really a [EDIT]. It is not worth single penny.

I have this cover for slightly less than a year. My toilet stopped flusing, no other usable toilet in home. well it is covered upto £2,000 per claim, RIGHT !!!!!!!!!! this what their website and policy says. So i am ok, No WRONG !!!!! this is not what AA thinks. read on

I called AA , apparently the AA engineers were not available so they sent a contractor , inspected and told me that this is due to some gasket or something in the toilet water tank which is difficult to replace because of rusty screws so the toilet unit will need replacement. I said ok reluctantly because if replaced the wash basin won't match. no other choice. He went back.

Many calls to AA same day and next day they were waiting report from the third party engineer that may take upto 24 hrs. last call on next night and I was told that AA won't do anything because if it is repair the would have done it but now since toilet unit needs replacement it is not covered by policy. WHAT policy says it is covered upto £2,000 per job. NO it is not covered, the guy says it is in documentation. I asked where in the documentation I cannot find ? He won't know that but he said we have sent you all the documentation. he suggested I should arrange a plumber my self to fix it myself. So I am left with a no usable toilet.

Is it some kind of a joke? Documentation and their website make you believe that non flushing toilets are covered if no other usable toilet in home. Don't trust them? It took me four days and many calls to get the final reply (refusal) to an event that AA accept it as Home emergency.

I have sent an angry email to their complaints section tonight. Don't know if and how long it takes to respond.

Nice!

go to the Ombudsman, if something is in their policy and then when it comes to a real life emergency and they will not honor the wording of their policy then this is misleading consumers.

Write to the Ombudsman or inform the AA you plan to write, might get you the response you are after.

Hope this helps, be interested to know if you get any form of redress. All the best. keep us posted

Called AA membership relationship department today. I was told;

If toilet is not flushing and they have to replace cistern to fix it, which is costly. they won't do it. they don't do replacements, it is not covered. Any sudden failure of something that has normal wear and tear is not covered. I should have got my toilet regulary checked and get regular toilet maintenance done to avoid sudden failure. :-x

They don't tell above things when selling cover. I have checked their website again.

"Each claim will cover up to a maximum of £2,000 for labour, parts, materials and VAT."

Upon asking, he referred the page 16 for terms and conditions. I have read my policy booklet again but couldn't find anything that says that cistern replacement is not covered on page 16 or elsewhere. booklet says that there is a max limit of £2,000 per claim but I don't think a cistern replacemnt will cost anywhere near it.

Am I missing something here? is there anything like annual toilet service that I am guilty to miss? almost everything in my house (pipes, drains, door locks, windows) have some normal wear and tear, So AA won't do anything in case of any of these failing suddenly unless it is very cheap to do so.

Immediate actions from my side:

Cancelled automatic renewal of AA home emergecy. renewal due end of the current month.

Made a note for myself to replace AA car breakdown cover and AA home insurance (renewal due next month) with some decent insurer.

On all three policies, this was my first ever claim and AA completely disappointing.

I have to say I disagree with the majority.

It is now 10:30 in the evening and I made a call to the AA at 8:15 this evening in relation to a leaking all over the floor, toilet.

AA had no engineers in the area and said we should get a call in the hour.

We were called by Mitie after 45 mins who again said might be a no go for tonight, but I persisted as it is the only loo,we have 3 kids, and cannot be in tomorrow. Not only that the stuff leaking was waste!!

About half an hour ago a plumber shows up, took a look at the problem and told me he is only meant to do a temporary fix but that was impossible and he replaced the waste pipe so fully fixed the problem.

We are really pleased and couldnt ask for a better service, the amazing (if you like being robbed) bathroom fitter that installed it laughed when my other half rang him today and couldnt make it til friday, I will be keeping the cover as I have peace of mind.

ps. The time on my post is wrong for some reason

I'd like to add to tirade of negative reviews.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BUSINESS.

and here is why...

1. They set up the policy as a loan, not an insurance policy so you cannot cancel it without owing them the balance. They do state this in the small print of their renewal letter however but if you have to move home within the next 12 months then you will have the pay for a policy that you do not need.

2. They claim to service your boiler yearly however it is you who has to arrange for this. This is as opposed to them calling you to arrange for this. All other companies I've used (including the devils British Gas) do this so you don't need to think about it.

3. I would confirm their policy on second visits even if they are the ones who are at fault for the second visit (no parts, problem not actually fixed, etc).

Give your money to someone else. I wish I had done a bit more research beforehand but I thought, "its the AA, not some fly by night one man band". Big company, small minds and utterly dishonest.

I too will be switching my vehicle breakdown cover to someone else.

DO NOT USE. Their staff have no idea what they are doing. They couldn't even tell me what cover I have got. I paid to update my emergency cover, only to be told I did not have this. Policy misrepresented, they only contacted me in response to a previous claim. I am now on my third water leak on the same pipe, in 5 months. Contractors they use cannot be trusted. I am now having to have the work done privately, as the AA can't even confirm if I am covered. Only interested in selling policies, not providing customer service. AA THE 4TH EMERGENCY SERVICE. They can turn any issue into an emergency.

AA Home Emergency is a joke honestly.

Let me give you a little background about my experience. My wife works for Lloyds TSB and we have the premier account which costs £25 per month. The premier account provides home emergency repair.

So we had a roof leak last week and noticed a stain on the ceiling. So we called AA Home Emergency and they sent someone over a few days later.

They apparently put in place a very basic temporary repair. Instead of replacing the missing roof tile, they sealed it using silicone sealant. Now logic says to me that a new tile costs around £1 only, and a tube of silicone costs £10 but doesn't last as long.

They said to me that we cannot replace the missing tile, as it means it is a permanent repair. So we have to use silicone sealant only.

To me this is obviously cowboyish. Personally i wish i would have taken the £250+vat from them and got my own tradesmen in, as least for that price the job would have been done properly.

save your money folks, AA home emergency is run by a circus outfit.
