I assumed I could claim unfair charges made by catalogues as well as banks. I Got hit for lots of charges from Ace christmas catalogue. Sent them a letter (from the templates on this site) to check the account history. They owed me £175! So I sent a second letter listing the charges (using another letter from this site), and today they refunded me the lot! No hastle at all. Would recommend anyone else with catalogue charges to do the same.

Hi

Wondered what charges you had asked back? I have just got my statements back - I have administration charges and also service charges. Can you help? Also did they send you vouchers or credit your account?

hi there,

i claimed money back from Studio (the same as Ace), got sent vouchers.Sent the vouchers back by recorded delivery with a letter stating, that my payments have been taken in pound sterling , and so do i expect to have my refund in form of cheque or postal order. The only other thing i mentioned was, that i stated that i don't intend to use the catalogue account no more, and therefore the vouchers are of no use to me.

I took the admin charges as being the punitive and unjustified charge that was beyond the actual costs incurred, and therefore illegitimate, but you got it all back, so all power to you

make sure you ask for the interest and ensure that your credit record is ammended accordingly, they didnt want to do the credit record bit but with a bit of a shove they obliged and removed all late payment markers due to their unlawful charges.

hello again

was talking to my sister, getting her involved as well. she has a studio account, but has had letters from dca...

i told her to get her statements , and in the mean time, to contact dca and say she is in dispute about account balance and would not pay anything until it was resolved...

was this the best thing to do?

write to the dca and tel them the account is in dispute and to contact studio for confirmation. write to studio and tell them that you disagree with the balance owed due to the application of unlawfull charges and request they send you full statements of account since it was opened. i would presume that they have issued a default notice on your sister as it has gone to a dca so will most likely be registered on her credit file. when you get the statements back work out all charges plus interest charged and inform them you require repayment of that amount plus your default removing and any adverse payment history amending. any probs p.m me and will assist where poss..

Hi

I was charged £20 for a late payment and I only owed less than £20! I was not told I was in the red and was not told the implications - the charge was just slapped on.

I told them that yes I was to blame but that the charge was outrageous - they told me it still stood.

So ... I tailored the template letter from this site, regarding unfair bank charges, sent it to them, and they not only refunded the £20 charge to my account but sent me a £20 voucher too. I don't really want to shop with them again, but with Xmas coming up I'll use it on presents.

Thanks to everyone on this site!
