my son has a current account with rbs he has a overdraft of 300 which he got when he was working but got paid off in recent months.he then has gone back to college because there is no work available for which he gets 280 a month. lastmonth rbs charged him £80 for gauranteed card payments 2 of them of which he paid then this month he had used £30 in his account by card paying for 3 seperate things at £10 each but he got a charge on his account for a dd of 98p which was not paid ultimately taking the £30 which was there and now they charging him 3 lots of £35 for each £10 he used as guaranteed card payments so now he in trouble as he doesnt have it. ive been down arguing with them about these charges for last month and now this. i was on the site of rbs and read there charges rates now on there site it says guaranteed card payments are charged at £15 per item up to a maximum of £80 so do i take this to them please help just want to help him sort this out before bank swallows him lol any help i would be grateful for.

Hi AllyB, :)

Welcome to The Consumer Action Group.

All these chages your son has taken CAN be reclaimed. It's going to take some time, but it can be done. Have a read of the threads and links in my signiture to understand the process. The http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/faqs-please-read-these/31460-example-step-step-instructions.html is a good place to start.

It is a good idea to open another account with a unrelated bank and have his credits paid in there. He can then, hopefully, keep that 'clean'.

I'll keep an eye on you, I'm in the same boat with my son !!!
