I recently worked for a large chain of shops and was dismissed for return fraud, i.e. putting returned items through the till fraudulently. I made a mistake and have lost my job, but there is no cctv footage of me taking any money.

I have received a letter from Retail Loss Prevention (Civil Debt Recovery)asking for the money back plus extra for their time.. otherwise I will go to court.

Has anyone heard of this company? Can anyone suggest what I should do?

This lot are used against Shoplifters and the like to pursue claims through the civil courts.

A couple of questions I would ask.

Were the police involved at any stage of the "fraud"

Were you convicted of any crime?

Have you admitted the charges?

If the answer to all three of the above question is a resounding NO!

What exactly was the proof that they produced to dismiss you
