Hi I arranged with my local council to pay 90 per month of arrears of which i dont dispute, but i am finding it very difficult to pay this much along with this years bill and an outstanding one with the bailiffs. In total i have to pay 140 per month, which is really too much i only work 16 hours a week on a minimum wage plus benefits, my question is can i lower the amount? have already just missed my second payment, advice much appreciated. thanks

You need to contact the council.

I work in Council Tax recovery and in cases like this we would usually keep the current year charge going and either lower the re-payments that you made on the arrears not at the bailiff or suspend it until the bailiff is paid off.

Missing payments is the one thing that will go against you - a willingness to arrange payments and keep to them will look better in your favour.
