I've been working in a nhs hospital for several years now but am employed by a contratacted company within the nhs. The company are now on there forth year of contract for the nhs and pay us fortnightly. The thing is we was supposed to of had our payrise in april this year but still no joy they keep holding back. The nhs have funded this company to pay us the correct pay from april so my thoughts are they are holding on to the money for this long and have alot of interest out of it. Is there any way i could write to the head office and ask for the interest they had from our pay be given back to us?

I work for my local authority, and we have just had ours paid to us in the last fortnight.

if you are part of a union, then ask what is happening with your pay rise. If you get no luck there, then try your local MP. they can always get involved. as for getting the interest, i wish you good luck, but nowhere i have ever worked has EVER paid me interest they have made on my pay award.

Cheers bazak1 i'll hang on in here to see if anyone else might know. Its just that i don't think its fair that a company should hold on to workers payrise for months on end to gain interest when its rightfully ours

Was your payrise actually agreed in time for April?

As the previous poster stated the local authority (UNISON), not sure if you come under them also, was only agreed early Nov, so backpay is catching up with pay dates now.

Yes gizmo111, many months before and unison do know this as i am a union member. Every payrise since they started they held onto for months on end which was agreed prior to the payrises. Unison on the other hand have been great in fighting for us but as for any kind of interest the company might owe? well thats a different story. As for the november agreement the nhs were in talks many months before to give those payrises but what about april? When we do get backdated from then 'say' #100 pounds? well where's the interest from then? Eveyone who works from a shop keeper to a judge gets paid an annual rise in pay??

Hi Sparky, so, you were awarded a pay rise in April, did you get written confirmation of this? and if you did when did it say that you would receive the money?

Does anyone get a written confirmation every year for a payrise? i'm not sure anyone does lula. With NHS or High Authority that does get funded yearly 'do' pay annual rises. Why would the nhs that do get funded there annual pay to pay staff and have to wait months after april to backdate? These people have gained interest in what is rightfully ours?

Well, in all my years of employment and my partners too, every year you get a letter, I am pretty sure that it is a requirement, that you are written to to confirm a payrise and what percentage it is.

All I am trying to do it to establish facts and written evidence, have your employers told you that you will be receiving a pay rise, if you work for a company that is contracted to the NHS I am not sure that it automatically entitles you to the same pay and conditions that they set.

We are due a payrise which dates back to april. Further talks as you might know were in november which is our annual rise. As for a letter? not until the rise is given of course. But as for the rise in pay since april which we have every year but wait months to get "wheres the gained interest which should be given to us??

Only talks from the union which tell us the nhs will pay. Having said that there was letters a year before giving times when rises will be given.

Speaking for myself and a thousand more more staff' Why wait months down the line past april (pay rise) and not be given the interest that amount could earn from april? The nhs pay annual rises every year? why wait seven months down the line to get it back? now do you see my point? :o)

i work for the NHS and last month (oct) we received the pay rise this month (NOV) we received our back dated money form april

cheers honey5 but are they going to give you the interest you rightfully deserve since april? this is what i'm fighting for as it's an annual rise for anyone wheather its a doctor' nurse' porter' domestic'. think about it...:o)

cheers honey5 for that but mine is a company working for the nhs 'porters & domestics. They are funded for this and wont be at a loss but if you think about it 'why wait for the rises when there owed to you many months down the line to which they make money on your rise?

I get the point ur trying to put across, when companies give pay rises this is some times many mths down the line after the pay rise should have taken place, this is due to unions and companies thrashing out terms etc, our company won the pay rise in Sept this year, ( getting better as was Nov year b4 ) this pay rise was back dated to April, however sadly NO intrest was payable, although sometimes we wish it would be, as it would result in a few extra bob to the employees. but for all my working life, pay rises are always back-dated but intrest is never added.

You should/would have got a letter stating the rise and amounts from ur company, showing the new hourly rate and from what date.

The company you work for do not get your pay rise. The pay rise is agreed at a certain time each year, or sometimes for 3 years at a time, and is paid as soon as is reasonably possible after agreement, which is backdated to April. There is no interest claimabale because the rise could in theory be negotiated at 0% in any given year.

Ours this year is a pathetic 2.57%, backadated of course.

Thanks for your comment gizmo111. the agreement was talked over a year before and put on paper the yearly rates of pay to year april 07.

And we have now passed the to April 07 pay round, the rises we are talking about now are the year to April 08.

unison balloted for industrial action but it was a close call so they decided against it. i understands where the OP is coming from, but i've never heard of ANY company ( although keeping you waiting months ) paying you interest on your raise when you finally got it. have to admit though, it would only take just one case to win in court and then who knows...........

Which I doubt would ever happen, as the argument would be that the employer made a offer in the beginning and AFAIK there is no right to have a pay rise every year. I certainly wouldn't take my employer to court for around £13 in lost interest.

OK, why should we wait and think 'O' Our yearly pay rise, but its ok as we will be paid a backdate from april and think nothing of it. They go through talks every year? which we know we get a yearly pay rise from the nhs and go without untill then. Why? its owed to you and we need to make a stand..
