  1. Hello all, I post in this place like once every 10 years because most things I can deal with myself, but thank God for this place because when i don't know what to do regarding some advice / legal advice, I know this is the place to come to. Anyway I am having an issue with a self storage company in London (one of the big ones). So basically I gave them 7 days notice to close today, and they said they have to charge me £15 because the 7 days 'crosses over' which is basically bull****, I know they're just trying to screw me for money. This is the first issue. The second issue is they sent me back an e-mail saying they 'require the unit to be cleared during office hours for the sake of thealarms on the units' which again is crap, because I was with this self storage company for 6 months and I could take my stuff in and out as I please 24/7, at midnight, outside office hours, weekend, whatever, it wasn't a problem. But now that I gave them 7 days notice to close, they're saying I can only take my stuff out Mon-Fri 9-5, otherwise I'll trigger the alarms. Which of course, if I do, they will promptly charge me like £30 admin fee or something. And bear in mind these 7 days (9th January - 16th January) I've already paid for last month, but they're imposing this new set of conditions. This really is a problem for me because I need to move my stuff out in the weekend, and of course they'll probably put the alarms on in my unit, which they shouldn't do, and then when I move it, it will ring, and they will say they can charge me for this. Is there some Ombudsman that I can go to complain about this? Can I also tell my bank Barclays to block any payments taken out by that company? (They said the £15 they will charge me because of 'cross-over' will go out automatically' Thanks all in advance, and mods, if this is posted in the wrong sub-forum, kindly please tell me where to post it so I can get maximum exposure to this post. Thanks a lot all for reading.
  2. Wow you guys are awesome! Thanks a bunch to JamesJ and Brigadier2jcs for your help!!!
  3. Sorry I am no trying to be difficult what do you mean place a notice of dispute on CRA files, what I am talking about hasn't actually happened, I was just asking if it was POSSIBLE to happen...
  4. Oh I see, so defaults are based on account number / sort code rather than a fixed amount?
  5. Thanks a lot for the quick reply brigadier2jcs, but that's kind of what I was referring to. My worry is that, because the 'default balance' shows £2500 and 'current balance' shows like £2520, which is like £20 difference, could Barclays or another DCA who bought the debt simply re-default me and say look his balance is different now from his original default balance, let's default him again, because nobody can say anything to us because his balance is different to his original balance?
  6. Hello all, I have a quick question on a credit card debt I was defaulted on in 2008. I am aware that after 6 years it should disappear off the credit file, but is there any chance that the original defaulting bank - Barclays in this case, could apply for a re-default since I haven't paid the debt off fully? The reason I ask is because I checked on older Experian pdf credit report circa 2012 that I had saved, and under the relevant section, under 'default amount' the amount was like £2500 and under the current balance, it was like £2520 or something, so like 20 pounds difference. Could Barclays, or any DCA that bought the debt, re file for a default simply because those 2 amounts were different by like 20 pounds, and claim the new default was different, even though it was the same debt but only 20 pounds difference? Thanks again all.
  7. It wasn't a parking fine as I posted above, it was driving in a lane for buses, cycles and taxis, code 33 E.
  8. Sorry I don't understand, did they give me points on my license or not? It's not clear from your post dw190
  9. Do I get points for a Penalty Charge Notice from Croydon Council? The offence was code 33 E, route restricted to certain vehicles. (buses, cycles and taxis). Thanks.
  10. How does she return the mail sent to her address? And actually I don't really want to get in touch with the banks, I have been ignoring all their letters and my landline phone has been on perma-silent for the last 6 months.
  11. Hi all CAGers, I have racked up around £4,500 of debt on personal bank account overdrafts, but I don't have any assets/savings and live in my parents' rented accomodation in UK. I am currently claiming benefit, since I don't have a job. I am thinking of going back to my home country in Europe in the summer (part of the European Union) where I was born (I hold dual citizenship), but obviously, whilst I look for a job there, I might get a County Court Claim from the banks sent to this address in the UK, where I won't be. They have been hassling me for a while now, switching back and forth solicitors and sending me letters threatening legal action. And obviously if they do that, I would only have 14 days to respond, and I don't think I have time to get the letter posted back and forth with my reply. I just wanted to know, if I am overseas, and without intention to come back to the UK, can I just ignore any CCJ filed here? Or if I ignore them, can the bailiffs come and hassle my mother, who will still live at that UK address? I dislike the thought of them pushing past her, since she is only 5 foot, and I know bailiffs are not the nicest people in the world. Thanks all.
  12. Well Weightmans are claiming to be chasing this debt on behalf of Equidebt, I am currently on JSA (no other benefits other than that), and I have no assets whatsoever, live in rented house etc, so I don't know what they think they can get from me. The annoying this is that I have been turned down for two jobs already, one was temping for a bank at £10/h, the other was in a call centre at £7/h, both because I failed the credit check. It's really annoying.
  13. Hi all CAGers, I have been chased for a while for an overdraft default amounting to around £5,000, and this debt has been sold and resold a number of times to different debt collecting agencies. I have been ignoring the letters and phone calls they have been making. Now I receive a letter from Weightmans LLP solicitors, which after googling seems to be a fairly reputable company, established in 1827, with multiple offices, and apparently voted one of the UK's top legal firms. They are saying that if I don't respond within a week, they could start County Court proceedings to recover the amount, leading to a CCJ against me. This is the first time any letter has actually specifically threatened County Court action, and possibility of CCJs. Seems to me this situation is being escalated. Has anyone dealt with these people before, they sound quite serious, or is it just another empty threat? At the moment I am unemployed and don't have any assets to my name, so I definitely could not pay anything more than a few hundred punds. Thanks all for your help.
  14. Well the letters I have been getting have been stating the same fixed amounts that I owed at the beginning when they defaulted me, more than 2 years ago now. But an additional question, if you guys said they can charge me interest and some additional costs/ charges, how much interest / charges are we talking about? The statutory 8% interest per annum? Thanks for the answers.
  15. Hi all CAGers, I have two questions. I have a couple of current account overdraft debts amounting to around £3,500 (£650 with one, the rest with the other), and I read somewhere else that there was this person who had about £6,000 of initial debt with a DCA, and he ignored them, and after a few years it had supposedly jumped up to £30,000! Can this happen? I am currently just ignoring all post and phonecalls they are making to me, not replying at all. Will they come back to me in a year or two's time and say I owe them like 20k??? Second question, if they proceed with filing for a CCJ, if I pay this full amount immediately within one month, does the CCJ get cleared from my credit file like there was no trace of it, or will there be some indication that a CCJ was recorded against me but I paid it within one month? Thanks all!
