  1. I think it was as simple as the crazy person not understanding who they were responding to! For me this is why it is important to quote posts...but I know that is frowned upon on this forum, so it can cause some confusion like this.
  2. They remind me of the "debt collectors" in the UAE who used to call you and anyone whose number they could get hold of to threaten and harass! No sense at all, just kept repeating the same drivel over and over!
  3. So, @Wakanda give us YOUR STORY! With facts....you just keep repeating the same thing over and over.
  4. @Wakanda You seem to be ignoring all relevant questions which will HELP people! 1. What was the debt? 2. How were you contacted? 3. What advice did the legal firm offer? 4. Who did you contact? How did you contact them? What did you send? What was their response.. Etc etc etc... Just throwing insults at the site team here, what is that going to gain?! *IF* you have real world experience of this. Share it. Share the proof. Help others..
  5. @Wakanda To be fair the team here do NOT tell people to ignore everything....only the rubbish that means nothing?? They give solid advice on HOW and WHEN to reply. On HOW to avoid back door CCJ's. What is your aim here? What are you trying to achieve?
  6. @Wakanda What do you believe was deleted? I can still see all of your posts..
  7. Means they cannot try and get a backdoor CCJ by sending paperwork to an old address where you have no/little chance of seeing it in time to act
  8. Just want to add info to the thread. According to this article, security cheques should NOT be asked for nor can they be cashed and a criminal case filed... Security cheques cannot be used to arrest defaulters | Government – Gulf News GULFNEWS.COM The UAE no longer considers a bounced security cheque as a criminal offence. To confirm ADCB did make me sign security cheques (two) and also they cashed them to make them bounce and proceeded to file a CRIMINAL case. This case was heard in court in my absence and a 1yr prison term imposed... So according to this article that was NOT allowed? (Source of the court case outcome was a friendly contact in Abu Dhabi Police who checked the systems..)
  9. This is all very interesting. Re the issues at GCC airports, that is accurate - it does happen (has also happened to me) when there is a case on the system. I must admit I did not know about the blank cheque thing being made illegal in/around 2013! The banks were all pushing for these when I was there after 2013, every single one. I know at least one of them (ADCB) pushed the cheque through the courts as well and filed a criminal case which was heard without me being there....reading that article quoted above, how is that even legal?! I suppose the fact is, no matter what the rules...these places are as CORRUPT as it gets. They just get their mates to file a criminal case and a friendly judge to pass it through before they go and get drunk after...disgusting place.
  10. Very interesting, thank you. So for anyone in this situation, look at putting any assets into joint names before the vultures attempt a snack!
  11. The guys are great on here, just keep reading and keep updating! Multiple people in the same boat....we ride the wave! One question about property/assets - I get the reason you guys ask this, my question is can they ONLY go after assets which are solely the "debtors" name or can they also go after property in joint names? @unclebulgaria67
  12. thank you, I mainly meant other gulf countries I guess. Outside of the UAE wasn’t sure if they all stuck together and shared info. outside of that, not bothered freely travel and no issues at all!
  13. Yep, will do! Is it worth me sending them my address one more time (in that email?) to be 100% certain they received it? I sent it to them all by post immediately after leaving the UAE. Or should I send again by post? The blank cheque thing is a disgrace really, can't believe it is even a thing... Never ending saga this! One question - I think the answer is NO...but is it ONLY the UAE I should avoid...or do they share status' with other neighbouring Arab countries? I.e. Qatar, Saudi etc etc? I don't ever plan on returning to the UAE, but just want to be sure I don't end up going anywhere else I should not whilst these vultures are circling..
