  1. I don't understand? Taking a product under warranty in to a store has never been easier, the guys there can book the repair through the till system now and it takes approximately 2 minutes. Repair timescales a few months ago were 7 days pickup to return, I assume that hasn't changed much if at all. It sounds a lot to me as if your friend has wasted his money.
  2. I'm not sure when these practices you refer to were in operation but that certainly isn't the case now. I suggest you book on to one of their open days at their lab in Newark.
  3. Whilst the responsibility for the product under SOGA is with Currys/Dixons Group, you may find it extremely difficult to prove that the laptop has not been misused. If you wish to take the product for an independant report make sure the engineer checks the casing screws around the screen for tightness/slackness as this really is the only thing that can cause a screen to break on its own.
  4. This. They are able to provide photographic evidence once the correct department has been contacted, I have first hand experience with this myself with one of my older laptops. If they are unable to send them directly to you ask them to send them to your nearest local store who will be able to print them out for you.
  5. Nearly all new netbooks do allow you to create Recovery Media on a flash drive, some require 16GB and others 32GB. Programs for creating Recovery Media are as follows; HP/Compaq - Recovery Manager/Recovery Media Creation Packard Bell/eMachines - Recovery Management Acer - eRecovery Management Advent - Tech Guys Backup/Recovery DVD Backup Sony - Vaio Care Type any one of those programs in to the Start Menu search and it will locate it for you. Also the warranty is for the Netbooks hardware so formatting and installing your own OS will not invalidate it, but you may be asked to provide the recovery media if a repair is required to illiminate software issues.
