  1. Not sure entirely, but when he said it's showing as no insurance I told him I can play him the phone conversation with Churchill or he could contact them directly and ask if he suspected me of having committed the offence. I'm insured, I'm not breaking any laws. If he suspects me of a crime he can try prosecuting me if he wants. I just didn't want to have to help him to update their records. It maybe helped that I had the family in the car with me.
  2. Hello folks. I got pulled over the other day and given a producer because the vehicle is showing up as no insurance. I got the vehicle in Jan so it's been insured since then - I have the money deducted from my account and the confirmation paperwork from the insurer. I realise it's me feeling cantankerous about being pulled when it's not my mistake (I don't look after/update the database) and I was just wondering if I could avoid having to go in with my paperwork.
  3. My usual mechanic quoted me £140 to clean it up, remove and clean the injector, and pop in a new copper washer. I texted the garage who said they would reimburse £80 for the work. I told them it wouldn't cover the cost and I could also bring it back and they can take it to their chosen garage and have it done for free. They said get it done locally and sent me the £140 a few minutes later. Thank you for your advice with this. The dealer is Shmmotors in Wakefield.
  4. I called him up earlier today, and armed with the power of your conviction, I addressed the issue with him. He's asked me to get a quote for the work to be done locally to me, and he'll ask his mechanic what it would cost for him to do it and he'll take care of it. I'll post back with an update when there is some. Many thanks for you help.
  5. OK, and this sort of thing doesn't fall under some sort of caveat of normal wear and tear, right? I am not protecting the dealer so much as, possibly foolishly, trying not to show my hand prior to anything kicking off, in the unlikely event they decide to Google themselves or certain keywords. Even now that I've typed it out, it sounds kinda silly. I'll still feel happier disclosing the dealer when I know the way forward, which is, by the sounds of it, asking him to fix it.
  6. It was towards the end of last week. And it was indeed by bank transfer. I feel like I've let my side down a bit to be honest, what with forgetting about the issue in the first place, and then not paying via a credit card for added protection. I'm normally a bit better than this, lol.
  7. Hi. I bought a used mk4 Mondeo the other day for the going price in my area, slightly under, on the grounds of the scuffs on the bodywork which I'll deal with later. There's an injector cover which was ripped and I could shine a light inside and see what looked like wet and very slight steam/vapour looking particles escaping. He said it could be oil because one of the injectors had been replaced. Took it for a ride anyway and then.. completely forgot about that issue. The next day, after having bought the car, I looked under the bonnet and remembered. I removed the cover and instead of being wet it's actually more of a lacquer. Apparently, it's a buildup of residue from exhaust gases escaping from around the copper washer under the injector. Easy fix. Except all four injectors and the surrounding connectors, everything, is covered in this lacquer. Without the cover I can hear the repeated "tss tss tss" sound of the leak and I can see which injector is leaking, coming up from all the crud. I've tried a few things and will be trying oven cleaner later. I may well be clutching at straws but is there anything I can do to make this the dealer's issue as well as mine, or is it just my issue because it was something a more savvy person would be noticed? The dealer said there was a 28 day warranty on engine and gearbox.
  8. @dx100uk& @slick132, I can't recall at the moment and she's out getting her vaccination at the moment but I think it was £350. We will call the manufacturer again and tell them of the lack of progress, rather than the retailer. It's an Indesit. @BankFodder Someone came to see and change the thermostat in, possibly, Feb/March. Other than that, sadly nothing. When I wrote the message last night I was reflecting on the whole affair. Things like this I have always done myself as she doesn't enjoy it and gives up easily. I said I would pursue it my way and she told me she doesn't want any of that messing about. I know this to be a fact that you cannot argue otherwise with me. It is based on this, and her insistence that she was dealing with it all, that gave me the sense of regret. I normally research the larger, more expensive purchases before buying and I follow up with these sort of things because I have an idea of what my rights are and I have this website as an invaluable resource. I should have just done it. I do acknowledge that she stopped me from taking control of the situation the way I normally would, and I acknowledge that it was ultimately I that let her do that. You are free to judge as you see fit.
  9. Goodness, I have just noticed that I have already spoken about this very issue previously at My apologies for the double post. Glancing over the original thread, I blame myself for not moving things forward at a proper pace, instead of letting the other half do it. Bless her, she does not do so well in these situations.
  10. Hello. We bought an oven on 21st August 2020 from an Appliances Direct. We noticed two things about this oven - it didn't seem to get as hot as it's predecessor and the electric grill cuts off. We first complained via email on 30th Nov 2020 and then again on 5th Nov. They apologised on the 10th Dec and said to phone the manufacturer as they will attempt to repair and if not possible will offer a replacement. After much phoning around we did manage to get someone sent by the manufacturer to see it, some time in the new year (but I can't recall at the moment when), and they replaced the thermostat saying if that's not it there's not much else they can do. The issue with the grill was dismissed with the advice to turn it down so it doesn't cut out. Is an electric grill in an oven expected to only run at max for five minutes before shutting down to protect itself? I ask genuinely because I've not heard of that before but it doesn't mean it's not true. I've never had an electric grill before so have no prior experience with them. The oven does get hotter but still won't get up to 240 degrees. When setting the grill to 80% it'll still cut out but it'll soon click back on again and the element is still fairly red. If you set it to 100% it'll cut out after a few minutes and then the element will slowly fade back to black for a while before it comes back on. She contacted them again on 15th April to say she's fed up and wants to either upsell to another oven or get a refund because it's still faulty. They said they can't help unless they get something from the manufacturer to say it's faulty and can't be repaired. I realise we've left this late and it's been allowed to drag on past the six months but things happen and other things seem to have taken priority. How best to proceed please?
  11. Thank you for your reply. Can you tell me how you are arriving at the 14 days? Is it because 14 days is considered a reasonable time to get someone come to fix or replace it? If that's the case they could well send someone after Christmas and it be within good time. I note the act states it should be "without significant inconvenience" to the consumer - would a malfunctioning oven over Christmas qualify do you think?
  12. We bought a new oven from appliancesdirect.co.uk three months ago and it is faulty. It does not get up to it's maximum temperature according to our thermometer (and the same meals take longer) and the top oven's grill element seems to turn off and on whenever it pleases. I am not aware that either of these are marketed as features so assume they're faults. The other half emailed them and they told her to trot on and that her guarantee was with the manufacturer. It's my understanding that our first recourse is with the retailer because it's not of satisfactory quality/is faulty, but I'm not sure which regulation I should be stating when I contact them back. Is it Consumer Rights Act 2015? If so, I will request a repair or replacement. Please let me know if I'm missing something obvious.
  13. Thanks BankFodder. I wasn't intending on making bones about it with them but I was irked at being dismissed with the phrase 'it's store policy'. I returned it because I was returning an air hockey game which wasn't functioning properly. I would have assumed that if it were designed as a toy for an audience that may be prone to dropping it, it would be made to be suitably durable. I was expecting that a year would have been reasonable and by it not lasting it was, as you mentioned, not of satisfactory quality. Alas, it's not something I wish to pursue to find out for sure. I do appreciate your feedback, as always on here, I like to know where I stand with these things. Thanks also for the heads-up on the Youtube video, I had not thought of that.
  14. Hi all.. My lad has a Flip Slide toy from Smyth's that stopped working. It's a bit like a Rubics style puzzle toy with flashing lights and a voice to explain various things. It was bought last year in December and a couple of months ago the audio no longer works. I can't choose the game type because I can't remember the options that would normally be spoken at the beginning. Anyway, I took it back because I was returning his birthday present, which they promptly replaced but said as this Flip Slide was bought over 6 months old they wouldn't replace it. It's not unreasonable to expect that device to have lasted at least a year is it? Couldn't I suggest it wasn't fit for purpose or of unsatisfactory quality if it didn't last? I'm not sure where I stand on it. To be fair it's not terribly important as he'd stopped using it and it was only me that used it, but it'd be interesting to understand what's what.   15. Thanks for the replies. I called the number on the PCN and explained what had happened and I earn over the threshold. He did cancel the charge though because I'm claiming Universal Credit for the child support element. Looks like I'll just go back to paying for a prepayment card.
