  1. Short version : Just looking for the rules when it comes to claiming housing benefit. I have been on benefits for years and am desperate to get away from them so I started a business a few years ago. I am the director of a ltd company, and pay myself min wage at just under 16 hours a week. What I want to know, is at what point am I no longer entitled to housing benefit? They are requesting a copy of my accounts now and I have to keep sending in pay slips to prove I am only taking min wage for 16hours a week etc. I don't know what other qualifying info you would need to help determine when the point is that I need to stop claiming, let me know if there is anything you need to know. I look forward to any replies. Let me know if you really wanna hear the long version, trust me its long! Thanks in advance for any help!
  2. Found a charge of £15.99 on my phone bill, after looking into it I now know that I have be paying this monthly charge for the last 4 years. This was due to some router thing that uses mobile phone data from its own sim. I had been sold it over the phone but can only think I cancelled it at the end of the call or called back the same day to cancel this as I realised it was of no use. Well I now know the device was never sent as the phone company have told me it was sent and then returned 2 days later and on my account it says cancelled and returned. I know I didnt recieve it because I have now looked up the device and have never set eyes on this before, not even a pic on the net. It may have just been dispatched and then they had to retrieve it from courier or whatever. All I know is that I never entered into a contract. But I still have this ongoing charge. Once I understood all of this and explained this to them, they have offered me £200 good will. I refused the offer and have requested a full refund. Now they are looking into it and coming back to me tomorrow. Am I likely to get all my money back, am I legally entitled to my money back? What can I do if they dont offer me a full refund? They told me that because its been so long they cant offer a full refund. Also told me its my fault for not checking my bill. Also have been told that there is no more info as to if I have received the item or if its been returned so its not proof. They also want me to put in a claim for it being fraud but they cant tell me why??? So confusing. Would love some help with this. Thanks in advance to anyone offering some help as to how I should approach this one!
  3. Also just to add to this, today i got a call from one of the companies that have taken on my barclaycard debt and they told me that there is a new goverment scheme that enables me to lose up to half of my current debt??? I didnt get to finish the call as was on mobile and lost service, they didnt call back and i have no credit to call them, is this real? Anyone know what is involved in this so called scheme? And why the hell would a company i owe money to be telling me this? Anyone willing to offer me any help?
  4. Ok im new to this forum as of today and im struggling to find my way around, not only that im not really sure what im looking for exactly so here is some background to give some idea what im after. I live just outside London and have unsecured debts of around £50/£60k from a few loans, about 15 credit cards, 1 store card and a couple of catalogues. These are all from about 10 years ago and i have not been paying any of them for at least 3 years now. I have just been ignoring any letters and phone calls simply as i cannot deal with them anymore. When times are hard i cant deal with it and mostly dont respond due to being so depressed about the situation. Although for some reason i only get threats of bailifs and CCJ's but nothing ever happens, i just keep getting more letters and phone calls! I am still in the same position as before in that i have very little money, living purely on benefits now, i have taken so called advice from the CCCS and also CAB but the only real help was that someone told me i should bankrupt myself although they said it wasnt what they could formerly reccomend as i should really do the right thing and pay the debts back. Anyway i was also told by a friend that my debts may well be unenforceable and gave me the phone number for some company, i called them etc and to cut a long story short they told me that most of my debts are unenforceable although they couldnt give me any more info until i paid them, but when i looked into how much money they wanted, it turns out that there wasnt much to be saved! A big con i think although im really unsure if what they were telling me was true? I just cant trust anything i have been told and even when i called various solicitors i was told lies, basically 1 solicitor told me these are all [problem] companies and to steer clear, the next told me i should go for it as it was a recognised loophole, then the next told me there is no way out and that the only way to clear the debts i have acrued is to pay up? Im so confused i have no idea who is telling me the truth! Im sure there is something i should be doing but really dont know what, this forum seems very good but so much info that i dont know what i should be reading, any help will be very much appreciated!!!
