  1. Hi I just wanted to thank the people who replied to this thread and all the information on this site. Monument sent me a settlement offer today for the PPI payments plus interest, along with the majority of the charges applied to my account plus interest. This more than covers the amount owing on my account - which was weirdly the charges they added in the first place! If it wasn't for this site I probably would have stopped after Monument initially fobbed me off saying their "Payment Break Plan" wasn't PPI and that the charges on my account were fair. So thank you
  2. Thanks for the information. I'll try the FSCS. The agreement was regulated by the Consumer Credit Act 1974 - I will raise a claim against them for the charges then.
  3. Hi I had an unsecured loan with Paragon that I got into repayment problems with - it eventually ran from 1999 to 2009. I recently sent them a SAR in order to see exactly what I had paid and see whether I could reclaim any of it. I sent them two seperate claim spreadsheets. The first was a claim for PPI payments I had made. They have sent me a final response saying that as the PPI was taken out pre-2005, the industry was not regulated so there is no claim to be made. They have also said that as my loan was submitted to them by a broker (Personal Loan Centre Limited), they were not part to any conversations about insurance. They have said they would usually refer me back to the broker, but they are no longer trading. The second spreadsheet I sent them was a list of charges for telephone calls and letters that I asked them to pay back. Their final response to this says that the charges were debited to my account in accordance with the fee tariff at the time and they cannot reverse those fees. Do I have any additional options open to me now? Is it worth raising my payment fees claim with the fos and if so how do I go about this? As ever, thanks in advance for your help
  4. Sorry to hear about Martin3030 Thanks for the further advice. I've sent off a letter to Monument with a breakdown of everything so I will see what I get back from them.
  5. Hi So sorry I didn't reply to this sooner - I sent off a SAR, but in the meantime moved so they wanted proof it was me etc so its taken ages to get the information. I've now got all my history from them - I paid charges of £24 up until 2006 when they dropped to £12. Am I able to reclaim the £12 charges even though that is the OFT fair amount? Also, they have been charging me for years for a payment break plan - from what I've read this is essentially PPI - do I send a claim for this in seperately to them? Thanks, Mike.
  6. Hi I have a debt with Monument that I have been paying off for a number of years at £50 per month. The original credit limit on the card was £500. The current balance with Monument is £1,980!!! I realise I should have checked this much sooner, but stupidly I didn't. It appears that each month they continue to add interest to the debt, and charges too. I want to get rid of this debt once and for all, and I am hoping someone could give me some advice on how to reduce the final balance before I clear it. I've tried calling them numerous times to discuss it, but the call center operatives are dreadful - they cannot deviate from their script, as is the line to wherever the call centre is. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks, Mike.
  7. That's what I would have thought too - I don't understand why they accepted my claim for a 2004 loan, but not this one.
  8. It was a secured loan taken out in 2000. It was done in a Welcome branch, just like my later loans with them.
  9. Thank you for the quick reply. I will do that tomorrow.
  10. Hi - me again I have a couple of PPI claims going on with Welcome at the moment - one with the FSCS and one with Welcome directly (see my other thread for the debacle that has turned into!!). I had some loans prior to 2004 that Welcome has told me I have to pursue directly with the insurer, not them. They say the PPI policy was underwritten by a company called Miller Direct, but I can't find any details for this company. Has anyone heard of these guys? Thanks in advance, Mike.
  11. Hi I hope I've picked the right thread for this. I made a claim against Welcome for PPI relating to two loans taken out pre-2005. I called them up a few weeks after sending the PPI questionnaire back and was surprised to hear they'd already sent me an offer letter out. I told them I hadn't received the letter, and when they checked they'd sent it to the wrong address - not even a previous address of mine - just completely the wrong address. They apologised and said they'd post it out again. A couple of days later I received the offer letter, put my bank account details on it, signed it and sent it back. I called them a couple of days later and they confirmed receipt and said the money would be paid within 30 working days. I kept checking and no money - so I assumed they'd take the full 30 working days. A few days before the 30 days was up (around the end of June 2012) I called them again to check if payment had been made, and they informed me payment had been made on the 1st June 2012!! When I told them I hadn't received it they didn't believe me at first. I went through my bank details with them and they didn't match where the money had gone. They were very sceptical and it took me a while to convince them I wasn't [causing problems] them. After a week or so of me ringing them to find out what was going on, they informed me that the person who they wrongly sent the offer letter to had signed it and sent it back in - so they have paid it out to them!!!! Almost 4 weeks on from this I still can't get a straight answer out of them as to when I will get my money. They say there is no escalation route and I can't speak to the payments team who are currently trying to decide whether they need to get the money back from the person who falsely claimed it BEFORE paying me. Surely this can't be right? Its not my issue how or even if they get the money back that they wrongly paid - its their mistake and I am still entitled to the compensation we agreed? I am totally at a loss now as to what to do next. I ring the call centre every few days, just to be told its still with the payments team. I'd be really grateful if anyone could offer any advice as to how I could escalate/resolve this effectively. Many Thanks, Mike.
  12. Hi I took out a personal loan from Paragon about 10 years ago for approx £8,000. I fell into some difficulty paying it back and while my payments dropped they kept adding interest on - which stupidly I wasn't aware of. I am now making repayments of £250 per month, but the debt outstanding is still close to £10k which is just ridiculous - as I am sure I have paid the original loan amount many times over. Are there any options open to me to get this sorted without having to pay them even more money? I did speak to one helpful person at Paragon who suggested I write in offering a fixed full and final payment - has anyone any experience of this and do they know what kind of figure Paragon will accept? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks, Mike.
