  1. All I have for hot water is a basic electric shower in my wet room downstairs or boiling pans of water on stove.
  2. Boiler has been completely shut off for safety. And yes thankfully I have 2 carbon monoxide detectors. Just had a email from Eden Housing they have agreed to Boiler replacement. They are going to get a different company to install a new boiler thankfully. I was terrified at the thought of Karbon Homes installing a new boiler. No idea how long it's going to take for a new boiler to be installed. Let's hope they actually do install new boiler.
  3. Just thought I would give you another update, a Karbon Homes Engineer did turn up today. I asked to see the gas safety ID and they got funny with me. They did eventually go and get it from there van and showed me. I let him in and he had fan with him. He had a look at boiler and asked me to explain again. He was more thorough than last engineer andhe was convinced it wasn't fan. He also said Boiler Engineer that came out Saturday had damaged a side panel so when it was on it left a gap to fumes could leak out. He went out side and rang Alpha, After supposedly speaking to Alpha he came back in and told me Engineer on Saturday had completely broken boiler and that I need a brand new boiler and he could not fix today so I've emailed Eden to see what happens now and to tell them I'm not happy that engineer on Saturday broke boiler then left it in safe. Ive told them I do not trust Karbon Homes to install a entire brand new boiler and want a different company to do it. I've asked again for a lift of there other nominated contractors. will wait and see what there reply is
  4. I have emailed her, I emailed her back this afternoon told her about contractor not coming out and cancelling my son's appointment so I could be there. I told her again that I don't have faith or trust Karbon Homes and don't want them coming to fix boiler. I asked her again for a list of Eden housings nominated contractors. She emailed me back tonight and Her response was please let Karbon Homes come and fix in morning. If I have to arrange for a different contractor it will take time and you will be without heating and hot water longer. She has said if I allow Karbon homes to repair in morning she will send another contractor as soon as she can to do a full audit and acessment of boiler to make sure it's safe and Job has been done properly. Should I agree or not? Not sure what to think of do? She also wants to split my complaint in to 2 and hand the more recent problems to a different person to deal with. Try not to laugh but she said apparently this week they have employed a complaints manger just to deal with complaints. It's apparently and brand new position. I don't know if I should believe her or not. If they have to employ someone who's only job is to deal with complaints that sure must mean they get alot of complaints. I'm not sure I feel comfortable with it being split in to 2. I don't want to have to deal with 2 different people and have to explain everything again. It will make things so confusing Any advice as to what I should do much appreciated Thanks again
  5. letter has been sent, I sent a copy in post fully tracked. I also sent a copy by email. I had a email back shortly after sending it but she had not read my letter in full and said she would message in full again after reading it. But agreed that she had taken too long to respond. She has asked if she can meet with us in person next week. I'm not sure I want to meet in person. I prefer every thing to be in writing so I have a record. Do I have to agree to a in person meeting? Karbon Homes were meant to come this morning, I cancelled and re arranged one of my sons hospital appointments so I could be here today. At 8am just like clockwork I had a phone call from Karbon homes saying sorry we can not come out today, our Engineer has just called in sick . Thanks again
  6. Stu007 thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. You are right they never told me about Right to Repair or about nominated contractors. I normally don't like to name and Shame but I have had enough so will this time. It's Eden Housing Association and the company they keep sending out to fix boiler is Karbon Homes. Karbon Homes are awful, just look them up online and read the reviews online. Eden Housing joined a partnership with Karbon Homes in 2022. Karbon Homes have been repairing and servicing boilers since then. It's strange as never had any problems with boiler until they stated messing with it doing services. Might be a coincidence I don't know But if you search Google for Eden Housing and Karbon Homes partnership you can find alot about it. Read some of the press releases about it. Honestly they will make you laugh there a joke. A lady from Eden Housing stated at time "We know how important gas servicing and repairs are to many of our tenants, and we are really looking forward to working in partnership with Karbon Homes to make sure our tenants receive a first-rate service" The person who said this it same person who is dealing with my complaint and has failed to respond. Only response I've had is excuses like apparently the last few months she has been off sick not working and no one else there apparently who can deal with complaint. I find it hard to believe that they didn't have any one else who could take over complaint. When I contact Eden house to tell them all you have mentioned above should I send to person dealing with complaint should I email or is it better to send a letter in post? Thanks again Just to add I didn't mention this in original post as it was already long enough. But this is not the only problem we have had with repairs it's a fight to get any repairs done. For example are roof started leaking at one point and it took them 1 year to fix, window exploded took over 6 months to fix. The list goes on. There are other repairs that still haven't been done one of which I mentioned on my stage 2 complaint last year. We have lived in this house 13 years since house was built. The day after we moved in I gave my children a bath in upstairs bathroom, got them out and pulled plug out. Started drying them when bathroom light went off plunging us in to darkness. Went downstairs to check fuse box, got to bottom of stairs and water and sewage was pouring out of kitchen. I thought at first a pipe had burst water was pouring through ceiling and boiler there was so much water. I turned off water at mains, and spent hours clearing it up. Boiler was damaged. Took them months to fix. We had to move back out. It turned out that they never connected house to main drainage. There was a cap on drainage pipe coming out of house. Upstairs light has never worked since. Reported it back then 13 years ago never fixed. Should have run a mile then wish we had but we were desperate for a home and it was all that was available. They just don't care. If we want a bath we have to do it when it's light which in winter means baths only in morning or lunch time as it gets dark so early so not practical. If we need to wash hands or use toilet in upstairs bathroom once it has got dark we have to use a torch or battery light. Surely this is a health and safety hazard. Lock on front door is broken can't lock front door from out side, reported to them several times still no repair. Would so love to move and get away from this housing association but there is just nothing available that we can afford.
  7. Lolerz thanks for your reply I'll get on to it now. Stupid question probably but if I get a independent boiler contactor in to do a independent inspection, could I get in to trouble for allowing someone that housing association hasn't authorised to touch boiler. I know houseing association and they will try and blame any one but them selves or there contractors. I would not put it passed them to blame whoever I get out to do inspection for Breaking boiler. Sorry if I'm overthinking it, I just know what there like and just worried.
  8. I apologise if I'm posting this in wrong place. I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. This is going to be long again I apologise is advanced. I live in a 3 bedroom housing association house with my 4 children. All 4 of my child have special needs and medical conditions. Back at end Of November 2022 boiler went wrong phoned housing association many times could not get through. Emailed and kept ringing. Two weeks passed and heard nothing from them and no one had been out to look at boiler. We had no heating or hot water, temperature outside was below freezing with thick snow on ground. Eventually after 2 1/2 weeks a boiler engineer turned up. He was useless and started whacking boiler with a wrench then openly admitted to me he had no experience and did not know what he was doing. He said he couldn't fix and left. Christmas came and went and still no heating or hot water. I continually chased up housing association. Toward end of December 2022 just after Christmas two more engineers came out both just as useless and could not fix, one of which was Very rude to me, swore and yelled verbal abuse at me and left me feeling intimidated and scared in my own home. I lodged a stage 1 complaint in January 2023 and in the housing associations response they were rude and just tried to blame everything on me and would not take any responsibility. They did promise they would reimburse me for the electricity that I was using to heat house with electric heaters and electric shower and electric hob to heat water to get hot water. I continued fighting over the next few months, chased up every day, many more engineer visits and still boiler not fixed. By June I had had enough and lodged a stage 2 complaint. The Beginning of July another Engineer came out and Finally fixed boiler. In total we were left without heating and hot water for 7 nearly 8 months. As of today I've still had no response to my stage 2 complaint. They say they respond to stage 2 complaint within 20 days it's been 7 months with no response and I've never been reimbursed for the nearly 8 months we spent a fortune using electricity to run electric heaters and to get hot water. I have continually chased them up about complaint and they just keep giving me excuse after excuse. This weekend Boiler went gone wrong again Woke up Saturday morning to find kitchen and hallway floor covered in water. Turned out boiler was leaking and water was pouring all over electrics and control board from inside boiler. Rang up yesterday and was continually put on hold. Spent most of the day trying to get through. Then was told it was not a emergency and that it was perfectly safe to keep on using a boiler thats pouring water all over electrics etc. After alot more arguing they eventually sent a engineer out Saturday Evening. He came and was from same company as last time and was just as useless. He found where it was leaking, which was heat exchange. Said washers needed replacing. He in my opinion he did a cowboy job. He didn't have quite the right size washers so they kept slipping out so he got, some glue, pipe weld or sealant and covered washer in it and used it to glue washers in. Stuff he used was in a white pot and had a brush attached to inside of lid. He then put boiler back together. It's seemed to fix leak, He then asked me to turn electricity to boiler back on, I asked several times if this was safe as water had gone all over electrics and control board. He insisted it was so I turned electricity back on l, He tested and everything was working so he left. Sunday morning I woke up and house was freezing. I went to bathroom to have a wash turned on hot tap, water came out for a few seconds the flow suddenly dropped to barely a trickle. Went downstairs checked boiler and all lights were flashing. Tried to turn on heating but boiler was not responding, would not do anything or fire up. Boiler was completely broken, I don't know what engineer did. Spent most of Sunday Morning on phone to Housing association. They sent another engineer out Sunday afternoon who was just as useless. He turned up looked at boiler, turned it off and on, tried re setting it once which did nothing. He then removed 2 screws dropped down control panel had a quick glance lifted back up control panel then spent 10 minutes wrestling to screw screws back in to hold control panel up. He couldnt even screw in screws properly. He jammed a screw on top of another and left it sticking out . Over all he spent barely 5 minutes looking at boiler said he couldn't do anything. He offered me 1 Tiny electric heater to heat a 3 bedroom housing. I'm beyond angry. My questions are First I want to go to housing ombudsman but according to housing ombudsman, They won't help until I've extinguished all avenues with housing association and got a final response to my complaint. What if they never respond to complaint. Housing ombudsman do not say what to do in this situation if you get no response from housing association. Any one know what I should do. Secondly what are my right regarding getting boiler repaired. I do not trust the company that they continually keep sending out. They are cowboys that don't know what they are doing. They took nearly 8 months to fix boiler. And even after they fixed I never felt boiler was safe. They have terrible reviews online. Do I have any right to ask them to send a different company. I fear for the safety of any one who has had there boiler serviced or repaired by this company. Some one needs to come forward a fight for the safety of tenants. They are putting cheap before safety. Using the worst cheapest company they can. Every one on estate where I live has had problems with there boiler every one is sick of it. I just don't know what to do next, I really don't want to go through another 7-8 months without heating or hot water. What should my next step be? Should I contact Housing Ombudsman? Councillor, MP. What should be my next step be and where do I stand legally. Any advice much appreciated Thanks in advance
  9. Dk100uk, I posted asking for advice I did not ask for rudeness. You obviously dont have a clue what it's like to be in our situation or what it feels like to not be able to support your family or put food on table due to no fault of your own. Every night we cant sleep, i lie in bed crying not knowing how we are going to cope the next day and the next day. Feeling like a failure. Do you know what that feels like. Like I said above we have filed claims what we have been awarded is hardly any thing and not enough to live on, ask the millions of people who have had to claim universal credit they will all tell you how little universal credits are, you cant live on universal credits. We are not sticking are head in the sand we are trying to do some thing about it and I find your reply insulting and rude. Regarding your comment about most Bill's not needing to be paid you obviously dont have a clue to make such a stupid comment. Spoken to housing associations that we rent house from have explained situation to them but they dont care and are still demanding rent payments and have even put rent price up. We are falling behind in rent, they are now threatening eviction in June. So yes have to pay rent. Phoned electricity/gas company (eon) explained situation again they dont care we are now falling behind in that bill they have now got there debt recover department harassing us and threatening disconnection of electricity and gas. Phone and internet bill. Could not pay so bt restricted and blocked it all so had no phone or internet to keep in touch with family and hospitals( youngest son has to go to hospital alot due to medical reasons and need to keep in touch with medical specialists he is under. I had to sell stuff to make money to pay this bill so phone and internet services could be reactived. Similar story with all other Bill's. So yes all Bill's do need to be paid. These big companies dont care they just want there money. We are trying to sell as much of our belongings as possible to try and get money to pay the Bill's. My post was not a plea for help all I asked was can a employer with hold your wages due to covid and where do we stand legally. that's all I wanted to know. No one has answered this question.you all just keep telling me to claim benifits. What happens if this drags on and on and they dont pay. I Thought you only had 3 months to file a claim from the day you were due to be paid. If we keep waiting this time will pass and wont be able to file a claim. Am I right or not. I know what my husband is owed wont last long but if it can pay Bill's for a few weeks it can give us time to breath and take away the worry for a little bit. Right now I cant think about the future we are having to live each day as it comes. Thank you to those who have replied with helpful advice.
  10. We are screwed they are legally entitled to employ people, make them work and then not pay them and there is nothing illegal about that and nothing we can do. these days we are expected to work for free it's a joke. My husband worked those hours and should be paid. Benifits has nothing to do with this. We have tried to claim universal credits but its barely any thing certainly not enough to pay all Bill's or put food on table. Oh and his old employer can afford to pay him she just does not want to, is greedy and taking advantage of the current situation with covid. If she can drive around in a brand new porch and sit in her garden of her million pound home drinking champagne ( posting pictures of her self on facebook). I think she can afford to pay her staff. I cant even afford to put food on table to feed my children but she is sitting there drinking champagne and living a life of luxury how is that fair.
  11. Unfortunately the extension to the furlough scheme is very misleading. You needed to be on the pay roll and employer needs to have notified to HMRC through an RTI submission by 19th march to qualify. In reality most employers dont submit RTI until end of each month. So extension means nothing and does not help new starters. my husband did not start until 16th March they had not submitted rti before the 19th. Therefore he does not qualify for furlough.
  12. I wonder if any one can give me some advice. This is a bit complicated but is the same situation with 2 different employers I will try and explain. My husband was working for a company that he had been working for for over 12 years, they started treating him badly, he became more and more un happy. In the end he felt he had no choice but to find another job and leave. He found a new job worked his notice period which according to his contract was 2 weeks then left. His last day at old Job was 15th March he started new job on 16th March. He worked 5 days at new job then they had to close due to covid 19 and my husband was sent home. He has not been able to work since. New employer cant furlough him as he was not on the payroll before cut off. we currently have no money coming in and have 4 children to care for. His old employer has not paid him his last pay. He was due his last pay for the last weeks he worked over 3 weeks ago. But has received nothing, he has not even recieve his P45. Old employer say they can not pay him what they owe as cant afford it. His new employer has also not paid my husband for the hours he did work. He has recieved no pay since started new job. They say the same thing that they cant afford to pay him what they owe. My question is, is an employer allowed to withhold wages they owe for hours that have already been worked due to covid 19. Is there any way we can get this money that my husband is owed. I dont know if it makes any different but will mention just in-case at the old job my husband was paid by the hour every 4 weeks. new job was a yearly salary meant to be paid monthly on last day of each month. Is small claims court are only option. If so how long do we have to file a claim and would it be expensive. Would rather not take the court route but we are desperate and need that money to put food on table and pay some Bill's. My husband does not work for free and currently feels like he has been used by both employers. Do we have to accept losing that money Any advice much appreciated Thanks in advance
  13. I wonder if any one can help me I work as a head Chef for a small family run pub and hotel. I have worked there for 10 years, 6 years as sous chef then was promoted to head chef. I have always worked hard never let them down. I've not been happy for a while. The person who runs the business is very elderly and losing their mind, they can barely walk and are very controlling, they wont let any one do their job. Over the last year is has got worse and worse. They do not follow the law and think they are above the law. They have never given staff health and safety training in the whole time I've worked there. All chefs in kitchen dont have food hygiene and safety certificates and have never done any training. I have had to pay out of my own pocket to do my training and get a certificate every 3 years my self. I cant afford to pay for the other staff out of my own money. They don't buy basic supplies like sanitizer and hand wash. Only when healthy and safety people come they buy it but stops when they have gone. They says it's too expensive. They employ people who can't even cook. I'm meant to be head chef, that mean it's meant to be my job to run kitchen, I should be doing ordering and should have a say in who works in kitchen. But she wont let me order, she has to do it and she always orders what we dont need. Last Easter she put me on holiday and whist I was away she employed a useless chef, did not even do a working interview or consult me. Gave alot of my hours to him and cut my hours. He got to do breakfast and lunch, did all the food prep and had every evening off, I was made to work just late afternoon and evenings having to serve this other chefs rubbish food. I felt embarrassed to serve his food. It has made me so miserable. I became a chef as I love to cook it's my passion. I spent years training in my profession. And now I dont even cook barely. I've tried to look for another Job but there has not been many around so have been holding out but They are getting worse and I cant stand it any more. They are rude scream and shout and puts down staff. I had been on holiday all this week and last week, they made me take the holiday it wasnt my choice and came back today. They come in kitchen just as I arrive, and ask me to do all these specials. I go to fridges and store rooms and find nothing, no one has ordered any thing. There is no food I can serve or prep. They then start screaming and yelling at me and blaming in on me. How is it my fault if I have not been there. She kept yelling, I tried to explain that I had not been there but They would not listen, I lost my temper and yelled at them to stop yelling at me and speaking to me in such a rude way. They did not like it and told me not to speak to them like that. I was close to walking out. I've had enough I cant bare to work their any more, They are making life unbearable. I need to get out. 2 other members of staff have handed their notice in this week as have had enough. I've got a interview next week so am keeping my fingers crossed. My questions are if I manage to get Job next week, do I have to give notice or can I just quit on the spot as I feel I have no choice but to leave. Secondly once I have another Job would I have grounds to sue for constructive dismissal. As feel forced in to having to leave due to the way she is treating me. Any advice much appreciated Thanks in advance
  14. Thanks every one for your replies. First ship my husband has emailed French Consulate General in Edinburgh but have not had a reply yet. ericsbrother I under stand that they need to see him to make sure the person applying for passport is that person. We have no problem with that but we have been told that honorary consulates are no longer are aloud to do passports. My husband phoned both the Liverpool and Newcastle ones and was told the only place you can get a french passport is in London now. I think it's totally unacceptable to expect you to travel hundreds of miles to other end of country. And it is discriminating against people who cant travel for medical reasons. that's why I was wondering if there was any one who has been in a similar situation and has managed to get a French passport with out going to London but going somewhere closer. we have no problem going to some where closer just cant get to London.
