  1. Thanks very much, buzby. I just gave the fax number to the fraud dept of my bank and now they're going to deal with it. They said I've to fill in a decleration form to say that I never made the purchase and they will refund me the amount within a few days. Cool. Thanks again.
  2. I booked flights through ryanair on the 16th and the cash (£90) came out my account on fri. I checked my account today and a further £96 has been taken from ryanair dated the 17th. When I called them up they said that, although it is my card, the name on the booking was different. They told me they would pass it on to their fraud dept and to call the police. The police told me to tae a statement to my local station, which i did, but when i got there they said that i should see if my bank will pursue the incident, so i went back to the bank. they gave me a number for their fraud dept and I called them but they said that they needed a name of someone to contact from ryanair. So I called ryanair AGAIN explained the situation. The assistant said that i needed to contact their fraud dept and he gave me a fax number (yes a bloody FAX number). I asked if there was a number i could use to actually speak to someone and he said that was the only number he had. I asked if they had an email address and he said that they didnt but he could give me their postal address. WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!! I can just imagine some room, in the ryanair offices, bare except for a lone fax machine. Can anyone suggest my course of action here?? please!
  3. Why is this only just coming to light now? What the hell has that stupid bint, whose spouse claimed back the porn fee's, whose job it is to bloody prevent these robberies, been doing? These chancers have been ripping the government off for years, where is the enquiry? I don't claim to know the in's and out's of politics but I reckon we need a new leader who is just and makes decisions/takes actions for the GOOD of the nation. Who has the power, and thus heeds the blame, to say: "Oi, PC Plod, that dude over there in the suit has been fleecing the public for millions of pounds therefore I want you to shackle him and escort him in front of a judge". The blame must lie somewhere. Are there too many people involved to arrest? I don't think not having any space in the prisons is any reason let thousands of financial crooks walk the streets, let alone continue to do their "job".
  4. This thread should be in our schools national corriculum. I never had a clue how corrupt our system was untill reading this thread so I don't expect anyone I know to understand the severity. Nowadays I'm regarded, by my friends, as the local doom monger. The funny thing is though, people are now starting to listen because the events unfolding are exactly what I've been telling them is going to happen all year. I think they still prefer their happy wee bubble compared to the dismal reality. I reckon its this fact that will catch everyone out in the end. If only I knew about this thread before november 2007 when I put my name down for a new build 3 bed semi!!!!!!!!! The misses and I have recently split and now we have to sell the house in possibly the worst hoouse selling climate ever. Joy!
  5. I hate these "Green" taxes. They're sole purpose is to generate more revenue not encourage people to be greener. The message they are sending out is: we're going to tax you more if you have an old car so go out and buy a new one which is more efficient. What they don't say is that although the modern models of the equivalent 2001-2006 cars are a ball hair more efficient, the whole process of manufacturing a new car is far, far more detrimental to the environment than a few more measly co2 emmisions per 100 miles. The mentality they are trying to promote of throwing out something of perfectly good value for a brand new, shiny, make-me-think-i'm-better-than-everyone-in-my-street replacement sums this government/country up perfectly. There is already far too much "green" tax applied to motoring which, by the way, I deam a necessity in this day and age. Especially for parents with children. Have you seen the fare price for busses and trains? Also, how many prams do you think a bus can hold? Not very many. I live near Edinburgh and they are in the process of building a tram system which is widely opposed by the population of edinburgh as it will only help people in the actual city centre and will actually hinder commuters by taking up road space. The project is estimated to cost somewhere in the region of £700,000,000. This money would have been been better spent improving the current transport system instead of creating a brand new one. Again the same mentality of replacement instead of refurbishment/enhancement. I know it has created jobs etc but do you know what the labourers are getting paid? Its something close to £13 an hour, for shoveling dirt! The people that work out these kind of contracts know beforehand they can fleece the taxpayer for whatever they like. In fact, I'll bet my house(lol, you can have it!) that the companies that win the contracts are best buddies with the guys handing them out. The whole system is inefficient and corrupt.
  6. Any truth to the rumours of RBS giving 16,000 of their minions the boot? I heard about it on Saturday through The Inquirer website but a quick google search shows that The Daily Record have an article on the issue and I'm not sure how much I want to trust research done by a DR "journalist".
  7. Wierd! This is a first, for me anyway, my standing order was showing on my account as being paid yesterday and now today it has been revoked and a unpaid item charge for £38 has been taken out my account. I hope they dont try to charge me for the unauthorised overdraft that was used when the item was temporarily paid. I wouldn't put it past them. If the don't though, it might work out cheaper than if they did pay it as use of an unauthorised overdraft costs £30(for the transaction)+£28(for the monthly fee)=£58.
  8. My fiance called our RBS branch just now to arrange a meeting with the manager but she was told there was nothing that they could do. They said that even if there was a default applied to her account they couldnt actually check to see if it was there never mind remove it. WTF?????????? They said that they could apply a wee note to say everything had been taken care off but it wouldn't actually affect our credit rating for another 3-6 MONTHS. This is unbelievable. How do they get away with this? What the hell can we do?
  9. HELP! Even though we have been paying the amount RBS requested it looks as if a default has been put against my fiance's account. I called RBS yesterday to cancel a standing order that was due to come out today as I wont have the funds until friday. RBS said they couldnt cancel the s/o and put me through to the review(sales) team who then suggested I take out a small loan to cover the s/o and also pay off my £500 o/d in the one (foul) swipe. Normally I wouldn't have dreamt of entertaining a RBS loan but since i really didnt want to be charged £60 for the privilege of RBS paying my s/o I decided to go ahead with it. The review(sales) assistant called me back later, after she processed the loan, to tell me my application had been declined. Obviously this never happens, unless your credit history is completely keek, as they are desperate for people to borrow more money. The girl asked me if I had been missing any payments on any loans etc I had: the answer was a big fat NO. It wasn't untill later when I was telling my fiance about the loan rejection when she reminded me of the problem we had with our account and the threat of a default being placed on it. She will be going into the bank today to find out exactly whats up with the account but I was wondering if anyone here could give us some pointers as to our rights etc regarding this possible default
  10. I have a standing order of £100 coming out of my RBS current account tomorrow but I only have £85 available in tha account. I have called RBS and they said they can ony cancel a Standing order 3 days prior to the payment date. Considering the payment is to my parents RBS account of the same branch, I refuse to believe that, in this day and age, 24 hours is not enough notice to cancel a computer transaction. Is there anything I can do or am I going to have to accept that I'll be charged £50(or whatever RBS get away with nowadays) for an unauthorised overdraft? Any help would be much appreciated.
  11. Thanks for the replies folks. I'm in the process of claiming back over £1600 in bank charges relating to this account. The case was sisted back in May. Since then there's been no charges applied to the account. Is there any point in requesting a SAR? I would rather not pay the £60 p/m if I can get away with it and just pay off the balance once(if) we recieve the charges back.
  12. What do you mean by enforceable debt? Am I right in saying there's a possibility I wont have to pay it back? Normally, on moral grounds, I wouldn't consider such a thing as I have borowed, and spent, the money therefore I have to pay it back, but, considering RBS are due my fiance and I £2000+ in bank charges I would quite happily subtract what I am due them from what they are due me.
  13. No prior warning was given and their reason was that the dont have a system that flags these circumstances. Come to think of it, that must be BS as they have a system telling them to make harasive phonecalls. My fiance did put in a complain over the phone.
  14. My fiance and I have a joint account which we use regulary and she also has an IPC account with a £700 overdraft where she is £650 overdrawn. This account hasn't been used for a while as all our bills come off the joint account. On saturday my fiance recieved a phonecall from the RBS, out of the blue, regarding her IPC account, demanding that she make a payment to clear the balance. right there and then. My fiance tried to explain that we copuldnt possible come up with all that money on the spot but the rep wouldnt have any of it. His tone was very aggressive and without compassion to the extent he had my fiance in tears. He said that if a payment wasnt made today (he suggested using a credit card or a loan from a friend) there would be a default filed against her name and it would effect her credit rating. I told my fiance, while she was still on the phone, to tell the man we would phone RBS ourselves to sort out the matter as the phoncall seemed too absurd to be legitimate. We have since found out from RBS that the phoncall was genuine but they have appologised for the manner it was conducted. Apparently, so they told us today, RBS have every right to file a default against my fiance as she has breached her contract by not depositing money regularly into her account. They admitted the rep from the first phonecalll should have accepted a smaller payment and couldn't explain why he was asking for the full amount. They've said we have to deposit around £60 p/m into the account to keep everything above board. Any comments on this disappointing show of customer service would be appreciated.
