I was with Natwest for a few years, the charges became OTT & i could no longer afford to stay with them. With a young family to feed i moved to another bank, but i still owed them a load of money which kept getting bigger & bigger with the bank charges. Then they sent a default notice & i assumed they closed down the account & just referred the debt on. In January i contact the F.O.S to complain on my behalf regarding the charges. I've just received a letter from Natwest with a settlement figure. Since they still haven't even sent my SAR bank statements i really don't know what the actual figure is, so it could well be higher than what they're offering. My problem is the consent letter re: settlement figure says they will pay the money direct into my account. How can they do this? Especially as it's defaulted. And, it would mean i wouldn't even see any of the money. What do i do to get the money back in my hands & not theirs??? Would i have to amend their letter & say i want paid via cheque or bank transfer? Has anyone already done this? Please help ASAP!!! Look foward to your replies, thanks

Hi everyone, I've got an interesting question to put to you all. Can catalogue / mail order charges be reclaimed the same as bank charges & Credit card charges? As they are also regulated by the Financial Services Ombudsmen. I had a lot of financial problems a few years ago & had numerous catalogue accounts which defaulted as i couldn't keep up with all the charges they kept adding, late payment fees etc. Would be good to know if i can reclaim those charges & get the defaults removed too. I'd be owed a fortune! (i wish!)

Yep, i know what you're saying. I've been on incapacity for over 2 years now with numerous conditions, also on Disability Living Allowance, my husband is my carer, so he gets carer's allowance & we've got a 3 year old toddler. Money is extremely tight, our rent is £530 a month, we just got £300 bank charges this month alone, £250 last month, it's daylight robbery. In November Tax Credits stopped as apparantly we've been overpaid! I really don't understand their system so i can't even say, well no i haven't because they change the criteria so often it's hard to keep up.

Hi, i'm new to the site. I visited a debt advisor with the Citizens' Advice Bureau & i was complaining about the amount of bank charges that Nationwide have been taking from my account. She recommended i search the internet for a site that can advise how to reclaim those bank charges. Well, i think i've found it! here. I've moved to the Halifax so that Nationwide can't take anymore money from me. I've got a young family & on benefits so i really can't afford it. I'm no angel with Direct Debits i admit it, but at the same time these companies, Sky Digital, car insurance etc, they never take them on the date they specify. I find that so annoying. If i could do everything without using Direct Debits & just pay cash i would much prefer that, but it's not possible, i don't have the funds for that, i wish!. Anyway, wish me luck in getting these charges back. I'm not sure exactly the total amount they owe me so i'll need to send a Subject Access Request letter to find out. Paperdos
