Calculating the charges

Hi

I have today recieved 3 pages of ALL charges related to my account, and am unsure whether to include all of them or not.

There are ones for *debit interest* - would these be included in the total ammount or are they legal charges?

Also i cant seem to find the spread sheet i am supposed to enter all the charges onto.

Any advice would be useful

Hi Kells

The spreadsheet is something you can easily create yourself in Excel (at least thats what I did anyway). All you really need is a table for all the charges you are claiming that you can easily print off and send with your prelim letter to your bank.

As for interest, this can be quite complicated. If you were using your overdraft they are quite entitled to charge interest on the overdraft. The only interest you can claim is the interest they have charged you on any charges applied to your account where they have caused you to go overdrawn. There is a spreadsheet that will help you work the figures out, but it is far from straightforward. I decided to leave off the interest and just added the statutory 8% at the moneyclaim stage as I really wasn't sure if I had worked it out properly. If you want to pursue the interest then I'm sure someone out there would be able to help with this.

Ok, i have since recieved a reply from them, stating that they would forward my complaint to the barclays head office.

14 days from the time i sent the letter with the charge sheet will be up in 4 days time. Im unsure whether to wait from a response from the head office, or whether to send the next letter - the LBA.

What do you guys think?

BTW, from having looked through the posts here, it seems my claim is more than a lot of ppl's - its £2,850.00 - Any response here from others that have made a large claim would be great

If you believe HO will reply with a full settlement, by all means wait. Otherwise stick to your timetable.

I've got a claim going through with the woolwich at the moment for about £2500.00 others have had larger claims and they (The Woolwich) seem to be hanging on right untill the very end before they payout.
As Michael says stick to the time limits dont let them fob you off. If you give them 14 days from date they receive your letter thats all they get, If you didnt have funds in your account, do you think they hold back for a few days hoping you will put in some money so they dont have to charge you £35.00 (nice thought but I dont think so).

YEs you are right Alan - i was charged £35.00 yesterday for the insufficent funds of 73p when a DD tried to come out of my account, and the company that the direct was for charged me £30 - so for the sake of 73p, i have had to pay over £70 in charges.

It infuriates me, it really does!

Let me know how you get on - what stage are you at?

I have just typed up my LBA after spending the best part of an hour on the pone trying to get a contact name at Barclays, to no avail. This will be sent on Thursday.
